Other than Sephora, Victoria’s Secret was the other store that I was dying to step into here in New York. I’m a BIG die hard fan of Victoria’s Secret and my underwear closet is pretty much made up of all their stuff. I also refuse to wear any other work pants other than theirs thanks to the great length and cut of their pants. And it’s such perfect timing that Michelle and I are here in the States because it’s time for the VICTORIA’S SECRET SEMI ANNUAL SALE!

Now, THIS is the sale that most girls would die for. Panties go for USD$3.99 while bras are reduced by almost half price. Everything on sale is put into pink bins only differentiated by their sizes, and girls dig through it pulling out items like hungry vultures.

Because it’s a Monday afternoon, this crowd is mild compared to the one we first encountered on a weekend.

In fact, all the shelves are neatly packed and nothing is strewn on the floor. Haha.

After my virgin experience digging through the buckets of adorable underwear and bras and discovering treasures, it was hard not to walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. The red/pink bags are absolutely cute too! It’s probably hard for guys to wrap their minds around how much money women will spend on inner wear that no one else can see, but I say a cute underwear and good bra will serve to keep your spirits up in all situations.

Lingerie is not all that Victoria’s Secret stocks. Beauty products also make up a good part of their product range. The Secret Garden collection is one of their more famous ranges, and they too were on sale! I got mini bottles of fragranced hand sanitizers from the Secret Garden range, some lip glosses, lip palettes and body mists from the Dream Angels collection alongside some really cute undies which I obviously will not show. :P

Even though I am such a big fan of VS, I only just found out they have a standalone Victoria’s Secret PINK store that caters specially to their PINK range! This particular range targets younger girls with their collegiate collection in vibrant colours. Graphic tees, hoodies, underwear and lounge wear emblazoned with the signature PINK logos can all be found in this range.

PINK by Victoria’s Secret is located at the junction of Broadway and Prince Street.

Abercrombie & Fitch is the brand hunks, jocks, surfer dudes (and whichever good looking group of people you can think of) are synonymous with. The models on the posters are sexy, gorgeous looking and all have chiselled bodies. But that’s just an ad right? Or so I thought too. Walking along Fifth Avenue the other day, I spotted the store next to high end label Prada. I have NEVER been to an actual A&F store and had no idea what was in store.

This 4 storey store looked decent on the outside, but little did I know it held exciting and yummylicious things on the inside.

Step through the front doors and a half naked dude is the first thing that greets you. Oh hello. Sorry, you say there was a girl? Oh yes! According to my pictures, there was a girl. And she’s actually pretty cute. But I’m not exactly interested in girls. Let’s get back to the guy. He’s half naked. And has a good body to match that nakedness. Even the two “bouncers” are pretty delish. Mmm….

The interior of the shop is dark akin to a club, and the music is bound to set some heads nodding and feet tapping. You browse the wide range of adorable clothes and browse the good-looking boys, sadly wishing it was them you’d cart home. Alas, the store is where the boys will stay and it’s the plush clothing that you take home.

It is a little hard to want to leave this haven full of delicious goodies thanks to its seductive atmosphere; I swear the boys have nothing to do with it. I wish we could show you photos of what it was like to be inside the shop. But, one, they didnt allow photography inside. Two, it was hard to take any photos because Michelle and I were both busy gawking. How is it possible they managed to find so many good-looking people all housed in the SAME building?! Even the dressing rooms were incredibly sexy. Soft orange lighting and music playing, it was hard not to want to cam-whore inside.

Tank tops go for about USD24 while bottoms, both jeans and skirts, start from USD50 and go anywhere up to USD70. Pretty pricey if you ask me. But everything about this store is delectable and I walked out of there with two skirts. They were too cute! Yes yes, I was so busy shopping that I missed Sneaker Sunday this week. But Violet and I are planning to do something exciting next week once I get back.

So anyway, back to my shopping. I bought one skirt from Abercrombie exactly like that of the girl in the group photo. If I wore the exact same getup as her, do you think I could fit in and get a job there? Hahaha.

I am a sucker when it comes to smokey eyes. Although my daily makeup routine is pretty fuss-free and consists primarily of light makeup, I do like to indulge and go a leeeeetle over the top when it comes to events and partying. It was thus hard to resist the Too Faced Smokey Eye Palette when it was dangled in front of me with a discounted price of $49.

I’ll tell you what happened.

I walked into Sephora hoping just to chill and look at the pretty colours that deck the shelves of the various makeup brands one fine and dandy day; I had no intention of shopping for anything. And then, I realised that Pop Beauty was having a 50% off their eyeshadow wallets. Okay… Breathe, I said to my already excited little heart. Let’s go see if they’re worth checking out.

Lo and behold, they were p r e t t y awesome.

For a 24 colour eyeshadow wallet (they’re called wallets cause they’re flat and long and well, duh, like real wallets) whose original price was $65, $32.50 was a pretty good price for that number of eyeshadows. And convenience came in the form of the wallet which had everything – eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks sans foundation. Imagine going out in the day without makeup and having a last minute meeting scheduled for the afternoon. What do you whip out? Your makeup wallet of course. Just slap on some lipstick, blush and maybe some eyeshadow if you have time. Sounds really inviting to a lazy bugger like me.

“Okay, let’s think about it”, I told myself. Afterall I really had no intention of buying anything and wasnt going to go on a spur of the moment shopping spree. Whilst walking around and browsing the pink shelves of the Too Faced counter, the salesgirl approached and whipped this out.

HOLY COW!

Smokey eyes in a beautiful black and purple packaging! And check out the gothic font.

It was hard to resist. I can feel my inner goth rock chick slowly creeping out.

So I succumbed. I bought it.

There were three different types of smokey eye colours (9 colours in total) in the palette: day smoke, classic smoke and classic smoke. Perfect for use in all different occasions.

Had my brother’s 21st dinner party last night and I decided to break out the palette. So here’s my face of the day with the Classic Smoke from the palette.

Isnt it gorgeous!?

The colours really stand out on camera and is soooo pigmented.

Face of the day

Face:
Everyday Minerals mineral foundation in Olive Golden Medium (my holy grail!)
Benefit Dandelion blush

Eyes:
Too Faced classic smoke in Smokey Eye palette
Kate Gel Eyeliner
Beauty Buffet eyebrow pencil
Maybelline XXL Waterproof mascara
L’oreal Voluminous mascara

Lips:
Maybelline Fruity Jelly lipgloss

Good Friday isnt really THAT good is it? What with most people being somber and the mood being pretty down, I dont understand why they call it GOOD Friday.

BUT BUT! Before you start accusing me of blasphemy and throwing labels such as sinner in my face, I understand that Good Friday is technically good in the sense that Jesus sacrificed himself for our GOOD. So therefore, it makes it GOOD for us (especially in the long run), thus earning the day its current name. But again as I said, if everyone is remembering His death and being all mope-y, I think, maybe just maybe, they should call it something like Sacrificial Friday or Holy Friday to better reflect the importance of the day. Of course, there’s always Black Friday you could use, a term I personally prefer.

Anyway, it was coincidental that almost the WHOLE SINGAPORE was busy worshipping this very day. Aside from the Catholics, Christians and Muslims, the Chinese Buddhist/Taoist made their way to one of the biggest temples in town to pay respects to their ancestors for cheng meng, and it was an eye-opening day trip for me.

I’ve seen the paper/joss burning pretty much my whole life, but never seen it done on such a scale. And it makes me wonder if, in front of ALL these people, the amount of paper boxes, packets and whatnots is the most accurate way to judge one’s filial piety towards our elders? Interesting concept some people have in their minds, for it seems what they did not do during the person’s lifetime, can somehow be COMPENSATED in the afterlife.

I’m not saying that we SHOULDN’T pay our respects towards our elders but, maybe what we do unto them during their lifetime, how we treat them is as important as what we do after.

Speaking of respect, I would have expected that the people who turned up at a place of worship be decently dressed. However, my expectations were sadly, set too high for our local standards. People turned up in short shorts and flip flops, dressing akin to a trip to the downstairs market. I understand it was a hot day, and the activities of the day were not so glamourous and naturally a little bit messy. Still, it wasnt an excuse to not follow the unofficial dress code.

Thankfully the episode was over with little fuss, and we hit the high road. Whooohooo! The day, on the other day, was just beginning.

The family adjourned for lunch at Sticky Rice located at Ang Mo Kio Hub. The shop is tucked away in a nice little corner and we rested in their wooden seats taking a well-deserved breather.

We picked from the menu and it being our first time there, made some good and not-so-good choices.

We had some yummy phad thai that was nicely done. It wasnt too sweet and came with a generous serving of peanuts and tau ghey. The noodles were springy and I loved its texture coupled with sprinklings of egg shreds and prawns. The colourful salad on the side was also eye pleasing.

At the same time, we tucked into a bowl of Seafood Tom Yam Noodles. Although I have pretty high standards for Tom Yam soups, for I’ve actually tasted them from the road side stalls of Bangkok, I’m relatively easy when it comes to Tom Yam soups here in our local Thai restaurants. Myojo Tom Yam Maggie is actually one of my favourite Tom Yam soups! Hahahaha! And it’s something I would recommend. The Seafood Tom Yam Noodles here, in comparison, isnt what I would recommend you to try at the restaurant unless you like the local Thai fish paste in your soup. The XO Fried Rice with chicken, however, IS SOMETHING YOU MUST TRY!

*insert picture here*

I dont have a picture of that awesome dish because it was devoured in a matter of minutes! It was the first dish to arrive and once we started, we couldnt stop! Wahahahahahahahah! I cant remember the exact name for it but I distinctly remember it beginning with XO. The best part was it being on promotion and us having to only pay the beautiful price of about 7 dollars!

That one MUST TRY!

I also got something for a really BEAUTIFUL PRICE during a spontaneous shopping escapade after lunch.

This fabulous dresssss that I’m going to wear next next week! YAYYYYYY!
Isnt she pretty! *opens eyes wide*

Adding the word couture to something instantly puts it a league above the rest. Of course, along with it comes the promise of sophistication and style.

Which is why Juicy Couture is the shnitz. Their stuff is obscenely gorgeous, luxurious and insanely delicious.

AND THEY HAVE A BRAND NEW STORE HERE IN SINGAPORE! FINALLY!

I was walking around Ngee Ann City one fine day, on my way to Sephora, when SUDDENLY, the store front hit me like a hurricane in the face.

*WHOOOOOOOOOOOSHH*

JUICY! I squeed.

And naturally, I had to venture into the store. Wahahaha! The store interior is no less opulent than the exterior and lavishly decorated. The clothes are luxuriously soft to the touch and beautifully displayed in the awesome shelves. Sadly, I found that the range here could not exactly hold a candle to the one in KL Pavilion. Size and floor area aside, I didnt see the beautifully detailed Juicy Couture charms that I saw on display in the KL store. Those are to DIE FOR! I saw this pretty ballet shoe charm back then and I should have chopped off an arm and a leg for it. Unfortunately, I dont have spares of those for such purposes. I also didnt see the cute boyshorts I got myself at 25 bucks a pop in the KL store here.

But what they did have, however, was a small range of lingerie amidst a huge range of velour jackets and pants in various colours perfect for lounging. They also carried some of the Juicy Couture signature bags that I might, in the future, acquire to start off my designer handbag collection. Muahahaha.

On the subject of indulgence and opulence, the new M.A.C Hello Kitty range has a Kouture line too!

The Kouture line has Swarovski crystals embedded on the compacts transforming it into a glittering treasure while the Dazzleglass each, come attached with a Swarovski crystal charm of course, in the shape of Hello Kitty!

How pretty! And as you know, it’s so hard to resist all things pretty and shiny, for diamonds, in this case, crystals, are a girl’s best friend.
