Since last week was my birthday week I had every right to be treated like royalty. I was royally pampered by my lovely friends and family who sent me flowers and bought me cake.

In fact, they love me so much that I had cake every single day of the week last week! But what better way to show how much you love yourself by giving yourself a treat too. I thought I’d show my feet some tender loving care by indulging in a pedicure session. Sadly, I have been neglecting my feet ever since I came back from New York.

You probably would have read my nail care tips or tutorials and realised I DIY my pedicures or have a home foot spa, but this time I really wanted to go all out and get someone to do it for me. I thus ended up at Beauty and Her Nails.

I’ve never actually been to many spa pedicure shops so all I did was to walk around in the malls trying to find a nail place that would be free to take in a walk-in. When I finally managed to settle in, I opted for the classic pedicure ($35) and a Warm Milk & Honey spa indulgence ($15).

The manicurist started straight away with soaking my feet and clearing my cuticles. Then she proceeded to trim, buff and shap my nails very skillfully before finally sawing filing away all the dead skin on my feet. Soon it was spa time!

Truthfully, I cant say the spa indulgence lived up to my expectations since all she did was give my feet a good scrub, a massage and afterwards soak it in nice bubbly water. But it definitely felt good sitting in a nice plush massage chair and having someone else pamper your feet. The back massage was also a welcome indulgence.

After getting my feet all soft and smooth, I picked out O.P.I Italian Love Affair (sweet metallic pink) and the manicurist swiftly painted 2 coats on without any mistakes at all. About 45 minutes later, I walked out with a little hop in my gait as my feet were softer and smoother from when I first walked in. I may have paid a little more for this pampering, but a little treat to yourself once in a while in more than we deserve.

You might bypass this little kiosk in the middle of the walkway without passing it a second glance but if you’re in need of a little respite, an express manicure ($12) or pedicure ($18) might just be what you need to keep you on your toes. But if you dont want to spend a good $50 every month, Violet has a solution for pampering your feet at a fraction of the cost. On a regular basis, I probably will stick with DIY-ing a foot spa, but maybe when the occasion calls for it, I’d plonk myself into a massage chair and have someone do it for me.

Inspired by Violet’s nail art post last month, I went out and got myself them cute little fruit slices and decided to try my hand at nail art too. For this week’s Sneaker Sunday post, inspired by the new Sex and the City 2 movie and my upcoming trip to that particular city, the theme for my nail art is, have you guessed it already, if you said New York, you are right! It’s The Big Apple.

The apples used here aren’t really THAT big, but that was totally irrelevant. Lol. Here’s my nail art design inspired by the City that Never Sleeps: New York and it’s dazzling bright lights.

1) After applying your base coat and cuticle oil, paint 2 coats of your reddest red nail polish on all your toes. I used Revlon’s nail polish in 680 Revlon Red.

2) When the 2 coats are sufficiently dry, slather on a generous amount of clear top coat. This will act as the glue for all your nail decorations. While the top coat is still wet, carefully place the juicy apple slice in your desired position.

3) To mimic the bright lights of the City, I used red and silver crystals and mini gold balls alongside the apple slice. Randomly cluster them together next to the apple while the top coat is still wet and push them firmly down against your nail.

4) Do up both toes. The design for both toes dont have to be identical. To finish, paint 2 layers of top coat over the decorations to hold them securely in place. Let dry completely.

The result is a dazzling mix of bright sparkly jewels against the vibrant red backdrop of your nail. Feel free to add more apples or bling to your nails to really feel the energy of the City. In the meantime, while waiting for your toes to dry, why not head on over to Violet’s and she’ll have tips for you on what types of sneakers to wear this lazy Sunday..

What’s in store for your summer holidays? My trip is just 2 weeks away! I’m sooooo excited.

This week in honour of taking good care of our poor worn out feet, Violet and I have decided to do posts on home foot care. Most of the time, we tend to overlook the little hardworkers that we squeeze in pretty pumps and staggeringly high stilettos. Because Sneaker Sunday is about looking good without crippling foot pain, what better way to get rid of foot pain than to DIY a home foot spa. I really like to treat my feet to a good DIY foot spa every now and then because I know I can count on them to take me places. I’m sure your feet do the same for you too.

Remember, feet are friends, not food the forgotten.

So why not indulge your friends a little as a way of saying thank you? I promise they will thank you and show you some fancy footwork afterwards. No no, I’m not talking about any expensive foot treatment or treatments that require live fish. This blog is about going green remember? We do it DIY style here.

To pamper your feet, here’s how you do it:
1) Soak it. Prepare your spa by filling a small basin with warm water. You can add in one or two drops of essential oils, bath salts or even soap to really pamper your feet. When that’s ready, put your feet in and relax for about 10 to 15 minutes.
2) Scrub it. It’s time to scrub the dead skin and hard calluses off your feet because the skin has now softened thanks to the soaking. I use a foot file or foot scrubber for the deed and target stubborn areas like the heels and balls of my feet. Remember be gentle while scrubbing because it’s your foot you’re working on, not a piece of wood.
3) Moisturise it. Once your feet is all smooth and dead skin free, moisturise your feet with your favourite foot cream and throw in a little foot massage too. Oohhh… Ahhhh.. Tickly.
4) Nail it. I like to paint my nails at the end of it all. Because to top it off, other than having nice soft feet, pretty nails just completes the entire foot pampering session. I’m quite predictable with my pedicures. I usually go for red nail polish or a classic french pedicure (pictured).

Not sure how to do a pedicure? Violet’s latest Sneaker Sunday post shows you how to do one with cute nail art. Combine both my post and hers and you’re on your way to having happier feet for the entire week!

Sunday’s still not over yet, so break out your nail polishes and start your Sneaker Sunday right this instant!
