Are you as mad as the Mad Hatter?

I’m not because I’ve already watched Alice in Wonderland! You’d be incredibly mad and tear your hair out if you didn’t catch this fabulous movie. I’ll tell you why.

It was a spectacular show with fantastic CGI and incredible detail. I loved every minute of the visual spectacle. The producers took great pains to bring the famous Disney characters to life; the white rabbit looked like it came straight out of the classic cartoon. Tim Burton was also careful to ensure Wonderland was as wonderful as we know it. The colours were mind-boggling, cinematography dramatic and characters entertaining. This whole experience of venturing through Wonderland was thoroughly enjoyable. Well done, Burton!

I was actually invited to watch the movie in 3D but sadly couldnt do so owing to work commitments. If I had, my eyeballs most likely would have fallen out of their sockets, seeing how wide I’d already opened my eyes to take in the gorgeous CGI during the regular screening.

Character wise, I liked Alice. She was a revolutionary girl of her time and dared to challenge the norms of her society. She was not afraid to say “No”. Sadly, I felt she was a little overshadowed by the rest of the characters while in Wonderland. That, however, could have been entirely part of the story line because she was supposed to…….. I’M NOT TELLING YOU! Haha. You have to go watch it. I’m not going to give away any spoilers here. Haha.

Another character that really stood out for me was the Mad Hatter. He was insanely funny and well, just plain insane. Johnny Depp was the epitome of the Mad Hatter. He played the character sooooo well and embodied the true essence of what it was like to be a little mad in the head. If I had to pick, I’d say he was my favourite character among all the other fabulous ones. Mad Hatter was madly entertaining, had mad eyes, madly funny, mad in the head and made me laugh like mad especially when he did his mad little dance at the end.

Okay, that was a little too many “mads” in the sentence. But you get my point.

Brilliant costumes (I want Alice’s red dress!), superb makeup (I love how they did the Mad Hatter’s makeup) and funny antics throughout the show might make you go a little crazy in the head as you’re watching it. But really, if you watch it and go a little mad, bonkers, off your rockers just like the Mad Hatter because of the show’s awesomeness, it’s really quite all right.

You know why?

I’ll let you in on a little secret, it’s because all the best people are. Even Alice would agree.

Alice in Wonderland is now showing in cinemas.

Although the movie opens today, I have already watched it courtesy of Nuffnang! THB was in the midst of his exams so I had the company of my gentle giant baby brother last week.

The what little I know of Star Trek can be summarized clearly in one word: ZILCH!

Okay maybe not entirely nothing.

I do know the name Spock, although I cannot claim to be able to put a face to the name and I do recognise the famous hand sign that is followed closely by “Live Long and Prosper”.

But this movie requires you to know nothing of the famous series because it’s a SPECTACULAR one that literally blows you out of your mind. And of course, as the title says, is where “The Future Begins”. Technically this movie sets the scene for all that is to happen.

It’s a good mix of humour, a little bit of romance and of course non-stop action. I loved how the all futuristic mumbo-jumbo stuff looked so realistic and the pow-wow nail biting scenes between the good guys and the bad guys.

Take a look for yourself.

If you dont do ge3k sp3ak, the movie can sometimes throw you off owing to how fast the characters speak. Nonetheless, despite the high-tech technological terms used by the characters you will quickly grow to love in the 2 over hour movie, the plot catches up swiftly and falls into their rightful places in your mind.

Then, there are the moving scenes and EYE-CANDY! It is a good-looking cast, so girls dont fret if your boyfriend drags you to watch this movie.

James Kirk, played by Chris Pine, is ogle-worthy. He plays a young brilliant casanova who has to decide if he wants to step up and fill the shoes his late father left for him. It’s hard to hate him. But you have to watch his antics in the movie because I dont want to give away spoilers!

The original James Kirk in the Star Trek series and the newer updated James Kirk in the movie.

Next to him, Zachary Quinto as Vulcan scientist Spock plays both a friend and foe. Zachary is better known as Sylar in the hit TV series, Heroes. I totally loved SYLAR by the way! In my opinion, having Zachary act the part was a perfect fit because Sylar’s character probably required keeping a poker face most of the time and this Star Trek role called on Zachary to do the same.

How hot is this Spock.

But he obviously didnt look like that as Spock the Vulcan in the movie. They made his nose bigger, gave him pointy ears and a bowl hair cut. Oh the tragedy!

Still,

THE MOVIE ROCKS!

It is a definite must watch for both fans and non-fans alike.

In Vulcan speak,
Live long and prosper.

In Singaporean,
HUAT AH!

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
- Alexander Graham Bell

On top of tubs of ice-cream, my guide to surviving a broken heart usually involves a playlist.

A playlist specially dedicated to “Love” on my baby Poddie. It’s filled with romantic, soppy songs that make you want to bawl your eyes out and believe in finding true love once more.

Do you think that a playlist and love could be related in more than just sharing a title name?

Well this story will show you just how it can.

It’s hard to mend a broken heart, we all know. But maybe what we dont know is that the best cure for a broken heart is to move on and explore new relationship possibilities – friends or otherwise. And sometimes music can facilitate the process and lead to a new love. The best part of moving on is, your next catch could be a really big one; waaaaayyy better than your previous one.
She could even look like Kat Dennings from The House Bunny!

So hot!

And Nick (Michael Cera) found exactly that in the city that never sleeps – New York.

With all its buzzing energy, he found love in the most unexpected place – the New York underground music scene, with Norah (Kat Dennings) whom happened to share the same love for all things music. Nick and Norah traverse across New York, with Nick’s band mates in tow, in search for Norah’s missing BFF alongside looking for an Indie band they’re both mad about – Where’s Fluffy. Amidst all the drama of getting lost, meeting psycho ex-es, the two end up having fun and enjoying each other’s company, despite having started off on the wrong note (pun intended).

But when Nick’s ex plots to get him back, will Nick and Norah eventually sing the same tune?

I have to admit, I couldnt help but feel all gooey on the inside everytime I saw the two of them together, they look soooo cute together! The tender moments they shared was easy to relate to on the account that these are the smallest gestures that make anyone smile and happen everywhere on a daily basis – the constant teasing, the play-fighting, the travelling together and the occasional arguing, essential for building the foundation for any strong solid relationship. Awwwwwwww…. The two main leads had pretty good chemistry admist the high-school sweetheart vibes they gave off. And it was nostalgic to watch them on the silver screen; jogging memories of a tender first love.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is definitely a must-watch for anyone above 16 – thumbs up for a feel good sweet movie that’ll remind you how the passionate flames of love can be ignited by a single spark, in their case by a single song/band.

Not sure how to find your music soul mate like they did? The awesome soundtrack on the webby might just help you along and give you some much needed assistance.

Nuffnang being the Official Blog Community for the Singapore Movie Fiesta, and holding the “Blogtastic Superhero” contest way back in conjunction with the event, I got the special privilege of going down to cover the event as a blogger. Waaahhhh. The lady at the registration booth even gave me a Press Kit. HOW COOL IS THAT. I am PRESS now. Hahaha.

Basically a Press Kit gives you official information about the event, the event highlights and the who’s who in the event. They usually give it to the MEDIA (like newspaper or magazines) sometimes prior to a grand event so they know what to expect. I quickly poured through the Kit and discovered that the event was to “bring out the Superhero in everyone’s heart”. Because the Superhero March was the main event for that morning, and all proceeds raised from the March would go directly to the School Pocket Money Fund, I thought their concept was highly relevant. We can all SAVE THE WORLD together. HAHAHAHA!
The School Pocket Money Fund, by the way, is a reserve for schoolchildren who go through their school day without any pocket money or sufficient food. Remember when you were in Primary School and Mum and Dad used to give you your pocket money daily so you would be able to queue up for your favourite foods in the canteen? I remember always setting aside a specific amount, say 50 cents, so I would be able to buy sweets *cough* like the White Rabbit one or some Ring Pop after school from the make-shift shops set up by some old uncle or auntie in a void deck. Haha. Oh man, the good ol’ times. But anyway, these kids who benefit from the SPMF dont have the luxury of such treats. Cause I think there’s no such thing as Ring Pop or Push Pop already. Hahaha! But you know what I mean lah, the fiesta was dedicated to help raise pocket money for school children to buy proper meals in school.

SOOOO. The Superhero March was what we were there for (aside from the $200 goodie bag filled with Animax memorabilia, skincare products etc). And of course, the prize presentation ceremony for the Blogtastic Superhero contest. Makan Man, created by our very own Jayden, was due to appear on stage IN THE FLESH! Jayden’s very own Superhero was COMING TO LIFE.

But that wasnt the end of the Fiesta for us. We also got to watch Shaolin Girl.

We saw a really good turn out for the movie event even though some people cancelled last minute. HOW IRRESPONSIBLE. Tsk tsk.

Hardworking Cherie.

Estee looking very happy with her tickets.

Serious-looking Huiwen.

Princess all ready with her drink to be Shaolin-ified!

The show wasnt as Kung Fu-y as I would have liked it. And it was funny, in a lame joke sort of way that is. I thought the underlying theme behind the movie wasnt too bad since it was about being able to both play in a team yet still be independent. That ran along your everyday good versus evil storyline which as usual good triumphed. But what really turned me off was the turn of events and the eventual resolution of the movie. Those were a little far-fetched. The SPI-ders walked out of the show, looking at each other, looking bewildered.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
Stand outside those video stores when they play it on their TV screens to watch it.
