Singapore Grand Prix

Finally got about to finishing this Formula 1 post. Looking through the photos, it just reminds me of all the good times we had over the weekend. There probably wont be another chance like this ever again where you have the world’s most beautiful women so close to you on our shores!

3 days of the Formula 1 in Singapore meant 3 days of fast and furious-ness. We’re not just talking about the speed of the cars, but the speed at which the Miss Universe girls had to move from place to place. It was amazing this year being part of the entourage of Miss Universe girls for the Singapore Grand Prix because we got superb treatment at the Paddock Club.

Singapore Grand Prix spared no expense and flew in these girls from all over the world and put them up at Marina Bay Sands. How awesome! A gathering of beauties from Ireland, India, New Zealand, Malaysia, China, Japan, Ukraine, and our very own Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes!

We were situated at the Boardwalk majorly close to the exiting cars AND THE SOUND OF THE CARS PASSING BY WERE THIS LOUD. WE HAD TO TALK LIKE THIS AND HONESTLY, YOU COULDNT REALLY HEAR ANYTHING EVEN IF YOU SHOUTED.

We got to experience a whole slew of activities in the Paddock Club itself and out thanks to the great hospitality of the Singapore Grand Prix. Schedules were packed from morning to night. From photoshoots, to attending events, doing a pit walk, making guest appearances at the various suites like Marina Bay Sands and SingTel, you had to look glamourous every single moment and everything was done on 5 inch heels! Can you imagine the number of photos that were taken those 3 days? Haha!

Rachel K Cosmetics

There was partying in spanking new Avalon and Pangea that were both located at Marina Bay Sands, our home for the 3 days. Then attending Rachel K Cosmetics makeup launch at Watsons. Watch the races. Go to Amber Lounge and meet some celebrities. Met Alonso but he refused photos. Saw Richard Branson. KuDeTa was also our second home. The view up there is amazing. There is nothing like it and I think the girls were all wow-ed by it. Really, there was no better welcome to show the girls from overseas what our little island had to offer.

And here are some of the cool cats that made appearances at the Formula 1! Not that we werent cool ourselves. Lol.

Minister S. Iswaran

We did a charity event with Minister Iswaran and some underprivileged children. They brought the children to Marina Bay Sands and treated them to a magic show and yummy goodies. Of course, the kids got to meet the various Miss Universes and one outspoken boy said, “I SAW YOU ON TV!” to Leila herself. Haha. How cute.

Eduardo Saverin

Eduardo Saverin, Facebook co-founder. Hey dude, do you “Like” me? LOL!

PM Lee Hsien Loong

Our very own PM Lee Hsien Loong also graced the Boardwalk suite!

MM Lee

And the day before PM Lee arrived, his father, MM Lee, made a surprise appearance at the Paddock. There was a huge flurry when we realised who was in the house. It was totally unexpected and when I was introduced to MM Lee (he needs no introduction though) it almost felt as though I should have fallen to my feet to say “Hello”.

Chef Jean Georges

Chef Jean Georges who was specially flown in with his team to create the most delicious food for everyone at the Paddock. We were so well fed the whole time and they had RED VELVET CAKE! Miss Ireland Rozanna Purcell and I went nuts stuffing ourselves silly with it.

Miss Universe 2011

Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry made a special trip down to Singapore just to party at Amber Lounge! We managed to catch her outside at the taxi stand. Haha.

Of course what is Forumla 1 without the cars.

McLaren MP4

And the fast car and hot babe. Zoom zoom, he tells her. Lol. Lucky Leila got to go to the Ferrari garage for a personal tour! How’s that for getting up close and personal?

Miss Universe 2011 Singapore Grand Prix

But the most epic of the weekend was when Miss Universe New Zealand 2011 Priyani and Miss Universe Singapore 2002 Nuraliza turned up one fine day in the same outfit! Across oceans, transcending years, queens of the same crown, uhhh… Dress up the same. Lol.

Miss Universe Sao Paulo Brasil

Sao Paulo, Portuguese for Saint Paul, is a city that will charm you the moment you set foot into it. From the vast showrooms and warehouses that peppered the dark streets the night we first traveled to the Hilton from the airport, to the stately Brasil flag that flew on its mast, the graffiti laden walls and impressive buildings, there’s a sort of sleepy yet romantic charm about the Sao Paulo city that captures your attention regardless of where you divert it.

The highways make like distinguished men and politely pass each other with a slight nod of the head. Morning traffic at 830am doesn’t seem to be as hectic or traumatic as a peak period should be. In fact, traffic has been smooth to all our destinations perhaps because Sao Paulo is so big. Despite our daily travels and escapades, we’ve really barely scratched the surface of this enchanting city. I’m definite Sao Paulo will continue to charm and amaze us in the coming weeks as things continue to pick up.

Despite this calm, made even more conspicuous in the veil of the rain and an overcast sky today, the energy of the Brasilian people is a stark contrast to the city. Like a strong heartbeat, the Brasilian people are steady and vibrant. Both Samba and football are perfect examples of this brilliant energy. One cannot help but want to dance when in the presence of either. We witnessed the energy embodied in the cheering in the Museu Do Futebol (Football Museum) and Samba lessons at Sociedade Rosas De Ouro. These two experiences were nothing short of fun, excitement and non-stop movement. The colours, buzz of the music and people are infectious and though it’s only been a week, we’ve only about 2 over weeks to the finals on September 12th. Time sure flies.

Miss Universe 2011

It’s been a week since we’ve been here at the Hilton in Sao Paulo Brasil. After a week of shoots, us girls got to go out this week and party it up. We’ve done cooking classes, met the govenor of Sao Paulo and experienced the spirit of Brasil by getting Samba lessons! Samba is waaaayyy harder than it looks but it’s sooooo much fun. I can see where all the Samba dancers get their fit and toned bodies from. I’m so jealous that I want to stay longer and get good at it!
