Before I show you the actual stuff on stage, here’s a peek into what went on behind the glitz and glamour. This is where it’s all happens and girls show their true colours because we take some time to cam-whore and have fun!

With the lovely ladies

What it’s REALLLLYYYY like backstage:

1) The small room with brightly lit mirrors, cluttered table tops and girls primping in front of the mirror. Oh, and a very happy Mira in the foreground. Hahaha.

2) Because of the space constraints, there was a lack of chairs. Girls had to resort to sitting on the floor and in cupboards. Haha! So ghetto.

There’s Cherlyn hiding in the corner!

3) Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and the girls were all decked out in major bling-blings! Thus, Nadiah and I show off our blings! One of the too many similar things we had that night. For instance our Junk to Funk outfits both had corset lace-ups! That’s what you call a soul sistah.

My skin looks so great here! So smooth and radiant. Yay to mineral foundation!

It’s been an amazing journey and now preparations for the internationals in November in Boracay start. Thank you girls for being an awesome bunch and your beautiful support. I will keep updating as long as they have free wifi and Internet! Hahaha. I admit guiltily, I am an Internet junkie.

The MES girls had our second shoot today. Compared to the first shoot we did, it was consistent with the standard beauty pageant guidelines. Not that there actually is one, but basically we first had to go through the standard beauty pageant poses before going into classy and elegant ones.

Not exactly my forte seeing how I’m prone to wacky and out of the this world poses alongside nonsensical randomness.

Still, makeup was nicely done and all the girls came dressed to impress in their lil black dresses.

Michie on set.

And then there was the bikini.

Not sure how my photos will turn out but I’m hoping they’ll turn out great judging by what my mum got on camera.

MY LEGS LOOK SOOOO AWESOME HERE! Oh yeah.

I have a gut feeling that my dress shots will turn out better than my bikini one. Do I look royal enough? Haha.

Although it’s still summer here (and perpetually will be in Singapore) Autum is fast approaching in the major fashion capitals. They have been pushing out the hottest clothing for the coming cold weather and accompanying that is the coolest makeup trends.

4 prominent trends were spotted on the runway from top designers and trust M.A.C to come up with collections that will help you achieve these hot looks.

I got a sneak peek of the collections that will be launching in Sept/Oct and I WANT EM ALL! Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry from M.A.C, was down in Singapore a couple of weeks back to show us how to achieve these runway inspired looks.

The first of 4 prominent trends where strong eyes were the main focus was aptly titled LID VICIOUS.

Think smudged, greasy, morning-after eyes and you have this season’s attitude driven and deliberate darkness. This is definitely my favourite style because I’m such a sucker for dark, smoky eyes.

With their launch of Style Black come October, I am going to dance in darkness with their Mineralise Eyeshadow in Blue Flame and Cinderella and Greasepaint Stick. The latter promises to spin you right to the depths of smoky, punky glamour. Just look at how he demonstrated the use of the eyeshadow on the model. So punk rock-chick. I’m loving it!

Who’s That Girl? with the red, hot lips?

The next trend Greg spotted on the runway this season was a flamboyant, neon lip contrasted against satiny skin. When it comes to pulling out that individual element, the rule this seasons appears to be: if in doubt, do a lip. And a perfectly lined, exorbitantly coloured one at that.
I’ve always wanted to do a traffic red stopping lip, but never had to guts to.

Greg shows how to transform your matt red lipstick from flat to fab. Instead of your usual matt red lipstick, you can make yourself runway ready, with a hint of Dazzleglass Creme. It makes the models lips super shiny and look like it’s bee-stung! I totally want that! I can’t resist super shiny gloss. It’s hard to say no to lips looking like they’ve been injected with too much silicone.

Finally I have the time to finish this long overdue post! And I’ve gotten the official pictures from the official photographer of the night – LetThereBeLight.com.sg. So be prepared for an overload of photos!

25th April 2009

The big day for Kieng arrived.

I’ve never been a jie mei for anybody as yet. So although this was my first time, I knew it was critical for us 6 girls to arrive early for the jie xin niang routine. We were over at the bride’s place around 730am as she was getting hair and makeup done.

While she was getting ready, we cam-whore and fill our tummies as Kobe, Kieng’s beautiful golden retriver looks on.

Soon the blushing bride is ready!

And we all clamour for a picture with her. Even Kobe!

The bride and her entourage of 6 jie meis. The colour scheme for the day was green.

Soon enough, the groom arrives. And it’s customary for a little boy to open the door. So cute! Same pose as his daddy. Haha!

The jie meis get to work holding the fort bargaining with the guys. Kieng’s sister is chief negotiator and Kobe is on our side too!

But we were nice and provided breakfast for the guys first: sausage chilli and bitter gourd muffin coupled with lemonade! Muahahahaha!

After which we decided they had to wax their legs if they wanted to gain access.

Of course we werent going to let them off so easily. There was a dance segment and a makeup segment where the boys had to be dolled up with lipstick.

Bangra dance anyone?

And finally, after almost an hour, they charged in because someone had gotten hold of the key! But not before we block the door of the entrance to the bride’s room and they tried to shoot us with a super soaker. LOL.

Of course, we cleverly hid behind the groom and used him as a human shield. HAHAHA.

And when we let him pass, he had to sign one last contract before he gets the girl.

Say awwwwwwwww….

After the excitement of the morning, we move on to the customary tea-drinking ceremony at the groom’s place first.

Group picture!

To the bride’s house after she changes.

Off we go! I really like this picture. Very vintage.

Offering tea to her parents.

Happy parents.

It wasnt till almost 1 plus that we left for home to get ready for the wedding dinner that night. One last group picture before we adjourned and meet again later.

Phew think I’ll keep the wedding dinner for another post.

I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of the second ever TVC I appeared in, in my career as a model. Can you spot me?!
I’ll give you a hint: Im in the 1954 segment!

The recent one I just completed will be the fourth under my belt and only be shown in Vietnam! Wo0ot! But here are some sneaks from the day of shooting before I get a soft copy of it.

The balcony where I pretend to be Juliet waiting for my Romeo. Not. Hahaha. But that’s my balcony for the day!

The crew setting up. The wooden board was creaking dangerously under the weight of 2 men and a HUGE sunlight simulator!

With makeup that gave my eye a sty and some “funky” new hair accessories. Haha!

It was such a coincidence that the make-up artist who did my makeup for this shoot was the exact same one who did my make up for the Tiger Beer one! Wo0o0ot! It was good working with the same production house again!

The shoot was a fun one and everything went smoothly. The producer was awesome and bought ice-cream for everyone! Pity I didnt bring my camera to the balcony otherwise I could have snapped a couple of shots of the pretty flowers during the short breaks we had in between while the camera adjusted accordingly. Pleased with my performance, the producer said they were going to give me more air-time than they had expected! Wheeee!

Nuffnang being the Official Blog Community for the Singapore Movie Fiesta, and holding the “Blogtastic Superhero” contest way back in conjunction with the event, I got the special privilege of going down to cover the event as a blogger. Waaahhhh. The lady at the registration booth even gave me a Press Kit. HOW COOL IS THAT. I am PRESS now. Hahaha.

Basically a Press Kit gives you official information about the event, the event highlights and the who’s who in the event. They usually give it to the MEDIA (like newspaper or magazines) sometimes prior to a grand event so they know what to expect. I quickly poured through the Kit and discovered that the event was to “bring out the Superhero in everyone’s heart”. Because the Superhero March was the main event for that morning, and all proceeds raised from the March would go directly to the School Pocket Money Fund, I thought their concept was highly relevant. We can all SAVE THE WORLD together. HAHAHAHA!
The School Pocket Money Fund, by the way, is a reserve for schoolchildren who go through their school day without any pocket money or sufficient food. Remember when you were in Primary School and Mum and Dad used to give you your pocket money daily so you would be able to queue up for your favourite foods in the canteen? I remember always setting aside a specific amount, say 50 cents, so I would be able to buy sweets *cough* like the White Rabbit one or some Ring Pop after school from the make-shift shops set up by some old uncle or auntie in a void deck. Haha. Oh man, the good ol’ times. But anyway, these kids who benefit from the SPMF dont have the luxury of such treats. Cause I think there’s no such thing as Ring Pop or Push Pop already. Hahaha! But you know what I mean lah, the fiesta was dedicated to help raise pocket money for school children to buy proper meals in school.

SOOOO. The Superhero March was what we were there for (aside from the $200 goodie bag filled with Animax memorabilia, skincare products etc). And of course, the prize presentation ceremony for the Blogtastic Superhero contest. Makan Man, created by our very own Jayden, was due to appear on stage IN THE FLESH! Jayden’s very own Superhero was COMING TO LIFE.

But that wasnt the end of the Fiesta for us. We also got to watch Shaolin Girl.

We saw a really good turn out for the movie event even though some people cancelled last minute. HOW IRRESPONSIBLE. Tsk tsk.

Hardworking Cherie.

Estee looking very happy with her tickets.

Serious-looking Huiwen.

Princess all ready with her drink to be Shaolin-ified!

The show wasnt as Kung Fu-y as I would have liked it. And it was funny, in a lame joke sort of way that is. I thought the underlying theme behind the movie wasnt too bad since it was about being able to both play in a team yet still be independent. That ran along your everyday good versus evil storyline which as usual good triumphed. But what really turned me off was the turn of events and the eventual resolution of the movie. Those were a little far-fetched. The SPI-ders walked out of the show, looking at each other, looking bewildered.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
Stand outside those video stores when they play it on their TV screens to watch it.
