Jipaban

The first time I shot with Jipaban was last December for their December Editor’s Pick. It was a special shoot because it was a Power Blogger Editor’s Pick and we had special guests from Parenting blog OurEverydayThings on set at the shoot! Mommy Leonny came with her three little darlings in tow.

OurEverydayThings

Baby Brie is a sweetheart. We had so much fun playing with her because she is such a well-behaved and darling girl. Not only was Mommy Leonny featured in December’s Editor’s Pick. Baby Brie was photographed alongside her two other elder siblings in the Jipaban Gift pick! It was a shoot full of laughs and smiles because they are all naturals in front of the camera.

OurEverydayThings

For the women’s section, Mommy Leonny and I were featured in various outfits! And we had access to all of Jipaban’s awesome accessories and clothes because we shot in their warehouse. Everyone loves to be surrounded by gorgeous loads of clothes, shoes, bags and accessories!

December was also a special month because I was featured on their banner for Christmas!

And now less than a month later, I’m featured on their Chinese New Year banner too!

Jipaban Chinese New Year

The shoot for the Chinese New Year lookbook happened over last weekend. It was again one full of shoes, bags, accessories and lovely new clothes for the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities. Although it was a long shoot, I had sooo much fun shooting with new models: beautiful Sam, the face of Jipaban Clara and a guy model, James!

We shot on location at a house that was all perfectly set up for Chinese New Year. Because you can see the full lookbook on the Jipaban website here, I’m going to show you some of my favourite unreleased shots with Sam! We spent so much time together at the shoot together, she almost feels like a sister to me now. I posted a photo of us together and some people commented that we even looked alike!

After the first official work day of the new year, there’s no better time to put those beauty resolutions to work! Resolutions always seem hard to keep and we normally go into the year with loads of fervour wanting to do everything! But I like to think of resolutions as new habits that need to be formed, so here’s my list of beauty habits that I would like to improve and change in 2012:

Mineral Makeup

Back to minerals
I have this thing with mineral makeup. Just as beauty and fashion trends come and go, my love affair with mineral makeup is seasonal. Mineral make up brands like bareMinerals and Everyday Minerals have been in my make up case for quite a while now. I used to swear by mineral foundation previously but found the loose powder format for mineral products a wee bit too messy, especially when it came to foundation or blushes.

Now in 2012, I’m going back to all that mineral goodness and I’m starting the year off with a brand new mineral foundation from bareMinerals! They never used to have bareMinerals in Singapore but the brand can now be found in Sephora Singapore! Yayyy! I havent seen a line of mineral lipglosses here yet (bareMinerals and Everyday Minerals have it at their online stores), but Watsons Singapore carries Rachel K Cosmetics mineral lip plumpers.

Kinerase Singapore

Taking better care of my skin
This sounds like a really general statement. And if it’s anything that I’ve learnt regarding making resolutions, is that it should never be a general one. Always make it specific. So what I really mean by the statement above is: just like how I go for regular facials to maintain my skin’s health, I’m going to take the effort to consult a skin doctor to keep my skin in tip top condition in 2012! I think anti-aging will be my focus this year. I want to look forever 21. Lol.

Champneys Spa Indulgence

Better body care
We often spend so much time and effort taking care of the skin on our faces and neck, but hardly take the time to pamper the rest of our bodies. This year if I’m not in a spa, I’ll be using expert formulas from Britian’s spa professionals to give myself a good scrub every week or so! Boots Asia carries Champneys Spa Indulgence and these things smell so good I could eat them.

The coarse scrub of the Oriental Opulence Body Glow does wonders for your skin. I love the coarse texture of the scrub because it removes dead skin effectively to leave behind soft baby skin. And the body cream! Rich luxury in a tub. Mmm… Delicious. Did I already mention how the products leaves you smelling as though you walked through a daisy field? Now if only I could get someone to do all that for me at home just like a real spa. Hmmm….

Beauty Expiry Date

Pay more attention the expiry dates on beauty products
Through all these years, products come and sometimes they dont go. When we use a product and decide we dont like it, what do you do with them? I’m guilty of sometimes leaving them there past their beauty expiry dates without bothering to throw them out. I’m glad I dont use them past their expiry dates, but I’m going to be more diligent about throwing things out if they’re expired. It’s time to clear the clutter!

These 4 beauty resolutions dont seem all that difficult to adhere to. And now that I’ve got them down in writing it’ll be easier for you guys to police me! I’m going to make a real effort!

What are your beauty resolutions for 2012?

I had wanted to do up this post on the last day of 2011 but knowing how things here on dweam.com work a little differently (and the reflection post for 2010 was done on the first day of 2011), I thought I would keep to this tradition. Other than reflecting on the past, I figure it’s crucial to take the lessons we glean from the past to progress into the future. Hence, an entry on the very first day of the New Year seems rather appropriate.

Truth be told, I dont know where to start on reflecting because 2011 has been a year full of ups and downs. The reflection was meant to review the year of Singapore Beauty Blog dweam.com, but there are several momentous experiences that happened in the year 2011 that should be included, one of which obviously was winning the Miss Universe Singapore crown and following trip after. However, if you’re a follower of this blog you’ll realise (and probably have already wondered why) I havent spoken much about the experience.

NAPBAS

The first Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards was held in Singapore 2 years ago. This year, I was again honoured to be part of the selected 500 bloggers from so many countries including Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Philippines, Singapore, China and of course Malaysia to be housed in Marriott Putrajaya Kuala Lumpur to honour the best in the blogosphere.

NAPBAS 2011

NAPBAS 2011

And boy, was it a really swanky affair. With top notch song and dance performances, delicious food and well-dressed people from all over the world, the whole award ceremony is probably the next closest thing to the Oscars or Grammys we’ll ever find.

But we were there to pay homage to the bloggers who give their all in producing good content and I’m very proud to say Singapore took home 3 very prestigous titles that one night.

NAPBAS Best Food Blog

NAPBAS Best Food Blog

Singapore’s very own Singapore Food Blogger ladyironchef is now recognised as Asia-Pacific’s Best Food Blog! Readers of ladyironchef will agree whole-heartedly with the recognition. After being nominated in 2009 in the same category, I’m more than pleased Brad beat the 4 other strong contenders in the category this year to clinch the very prestigous award. A well deserved award for the awesome ladyironchef.

NAPBAS Xiaxue

You’re probably already familiar with her. She is definitely no stranger to the blogosphere. In 2009, Asia-Pacific’s Best Lifestyle Blog, Most Influential Blog and Region’s Best Blog also clinched Most Influential Blog and Region’s Best Blog in 2011′s Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards. With 8 years of blogging experience, Xiaxue is certainly a mover and shaker in the blogosphere. Kudos to Wendy for winning TWO very anticipated awards at the award ceremony.

In her thank you speech for winning Region’s Best Blog, Wendy made a good point on how Nuffnang has certainly revolutionized the entire blogging scene. From mere keyboard warriors, people have come to realise that social media should and can be taken as seriously as traditional media. Not just blogs, so says the Region’s Best Blog, but even on micro-blogging platforms too. There was even an award for Best Micro Blog because we can and have “set trends on Twitter”! The Best Micro Blog award was well-earned by funny man Kenny Sia.

NAPBAS Kenny Sia

Certainly, Nuffnang’s outreach and Midas touch was very evident when you look at not just the award winners that night, but to the entire blogging crowd that was there in the Marriott ballroom on December 16th. Who would have thought within 5 years, bloggers could earn money from doing what they do best: writing. And then meeting and making friends from all over the world, surely that’s worth something money cannot buy. Not only has Nuffnang has moved people from all over the world to come together, but look into the history books and you’ll see they have certainly broken into territories uncharted.

I’m not about to give a blow by blow account on how fantastic the dinner was; or how we were taken for a tour around our neighbouring city Kuala Lumpur and how we were partying like rock stars at Zouk KL. But I’m here to honour Nuffnang for the intangible that they have given to bloggers around the Asia-Pacific.

NAPBAS Bloggers

In my personal opinion, the best thing that Nuffnang has given to bloggers is potential, infinite potential. The potential to grow, the potential to influence, the potential to build bonds etc. How ever you choose to use the many opportunities presented is purely up to you, but the matter of the fact is, Nuffnang has and will continue to provide the room for growth and opportunities for you to do what you desire whether in the blogosphere or out of it.

NAPBAS Cheesie

Cheesie made herself out to be Best Fashion Blog in the NAPBAS 2011 after all the years I’ve followed her! Congratulations!

NAPBAS bongqiuqiu fourfeetnine

QiuQiu of Budget Barbie fame and fourfeetnine who is just so WTF cute always!

NAPBAS ice angel

NAPBAS typicalben

Singaporean bloggers iceangel and typicalben who I’ve known from the very beginning.

NAPBAS Aronil

Aronil, whom I met donkey years ago and was then trying very hard to become an actress, is now a DJ on Malaysian radio!

NAPBAS Beatrice

Beautiful Beatrice who is a familiar face on LoveBonito.

Witnessing not only the winners who have evolved so much, both Wendy and Brad perfect examples from the Singapore blogosphere, but the rest of the bloggers whom I caught up with that night, some of whom I recognise as “pioneer batches”, it was intriguing to see how we’ve all changed so much over the years. I guess when you live your life partially on the Internet and follow certain personalities on their everyday journey, they somewhat become of a part of your own life. Personalities like fourfeetnine, aronil, Simon Seow, kennysia, typicalben, nadnut, theiceangel, ladyironchef, Cheesie, Xiaxue are familiar faces I’ve known from years ago. And you marvel and watch as their lives unfold right in front of your eyes on their blogs. Then, there are the new people I’ve met recently like bongqiuqiu, yinagoh, beatricesays, belluspuera, dblchin, noelboyd, silverang, sophiewillcoq whom I’m sure I will be seeing more of in the future.

NAPBAS Nuffies

NAPBAS Bloggers

NAPBAS Elaine

NAPBAS Nuffies

NAPBAS Huiwen

Next, when you work so closely with the team of Nuffies who make Nuffnang the colourful and vibrant team it is, they eventually become good friends of yours and again they hold a special place in your life too as their trials and tribulations become yours. Thank you Nuffies of Singapore, both past and present, each and everyone from the various branches of Jipaban, Nom Nom and Churp Churp have all been important people who have walked into my life.

Wow. I didnt even win an award and here I am saying my thank yous. Hahaha. But since I’m on a roll and it is almost the end of the year, I’m going to keep at it.

Thank you Nuffnang Malaysia for their hardwork this year in organising an amazing award ceremony. For all the partners, Volkswagen Group Malaysia, XPAX Malaysia, Putrajaya Marriott, Churp Churp, Tiger Beer, Red FM, Air Asia X, Olympus, Zouk, who have played a part in bringing the best of the blogosphere together, thank you for your faith in social media.

NAPBAS Nuffnang

Lastly, where would we all be without the two co-founders Tim and Ming. Thank you Ming and Tim for your initial vision and brilliance; for having the “hunger Steve jobs talked about”; for persisting and believing in something no one else had at that time. I thank you for the amazing things you have done and congratulate you on a company well-built. I wish both of you more successes and to more records being broken.

NAPBAS Winners

To all the bloggers I’ve met and will meet in the future, to the nominees and winners of this year’s Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards, congratulations and well done on a fantastic year. Honouring the best in the blogosphere, honouring the best we can be.

Tis the season to be super busy! My crazy month started with an invite for the launch of Fan di Fendi perfume at the Marina Bay Sands Fendi boutique. I’ve never been to the Fendi boutique in Marina Bay Sands and was honored to be invited there obviously. You cant miss the store while you’re in the shopping arcade. I had a look see around that very day and boy, was the store lovely!

But we mustnt forget the real reason we were at the Fendi boutique in Marina Bay Sands: Fan di Fendi! Fendi hasnt launched a fragrance for a very long time, since 1985 if my memory serves me right, so Fan di Fendi is thus quite a special perfume for Fendi fans. The Fan di Fendi eau de parfum and Fan di Fendi eau de toilette were created in mind for women who are fun-loving, carefree, playful, vivacious and vibrant.

Fan di Fendi Eau De Parfum

To really hit the point home, Fendi had 3 very sexy, pretty and energetic models dance with the Fan di Fendi perfume during the presentation. It was as though the actual Fan di Fendi girls, Anja Rubik, Karmen Pedaru, Abbey Lee Kershaw were there with us!

Fan di Fendi Eau De Parfum

Fan di Fendi Eau De Parfum

Comparing the EDT and the EDP, I prefer the Fan di Fendi eau de parfum for its radiant floral on a leather base. On first whiff, it’s fresh, as the top notes are pear, blackcurrent and tangerine from Calabria. Then, at the heart of the parfum is Damascena Rose and Yellow Jasmine, topped off with Indian Tuberose to give it that sunny and vibrant smell.

And have you ever heard of leather in an eau de parfum? Well, as a tribute to Fendi’s expertise in creating works of art with fur and leather, the base note of the Fan di Fendi eau de parfum is a bewitching leather note that in my opinion, is so sensual. After letting the Fan di Fendi perfume sit on my skin for a good half an hour, the Fan di Fendi eau de parfum is just my type. It’s fun, sexy and addictive! I think I’m going to have to add this to my Christmas Wish List.
