Girlfriends are Forever

When boys are the problem, who has the solution? Girlfriends of course! When a girl is heartbroken or has secrets to share, who does she turn to? Her best girlfriend of course. Because no one gets you like your BFF does.

Boyfriends come and go but girlfriends are forever

I’ve been blessed with some of the best girlfriends. I trust them with decisions big and small, stories and tales of all sorts especially when it comes to boys. Whether it’s a current squeeze, a lost love or just some annoying twerp trying his luck, my girlfriends know it all! Haha. In fact, I think they would be the best people to write the chronicles of my boy-scapades.

And someone has done exactly just that. Well, no, not chronicle my heartbreaks. But someone has cleverly put all our girly stories into a fun musical! It’s time to bring the girls out, leave the boys at home and indulge in taking the mickey out of opposite gender. Who says girls don’t talk about boys? Hahaha. Admit it, we talk about them. A LOT.

Girl Talk the Musical

Girl Talk the Musical, an off-Broadway musical hit, is now in Singapore! With the original cast all the way from Broadway, it’s a definite must-watch with your girlfriends whether you’re single or attached. Stories, jokes and the occasional boy-bashing are just part and parcel of any girl conversation. Normally done in private, us girls are now banding together and bonding publicly, sharing stories of sex, booze and men. On top of that, they discuss practically anything under the sun: Botox, unwanted hair, ovulation etc. Because with your best girlfriends you can!

The stories and lives of the three leads in Girl Talk are so easily relatable and you’ll most certainly be laughing, pointing and nodding in agreement to their jokes. The plot is set in the final broadcast of radio show Girl Talk after 10 years, and the 3 very different women, Barbara, Dr Laura and Janice, are set to end things with a bang!

Barbara’s an eccentric lady who’s menopausing and being anything but cranky, and soon to be booted outta the show. Janice is little Miss Perfect, leads a blissfully perfect life, and is about to host her own radio show. Dr Laura, the rambunctious sexpert, on the other hand, is a frequent guest on the show, and she can give you a tip or 2 on how to do a *cough* mouth Macarena!

If you’re worried about the upcoming Valentine’s Day, dont be. It isn’t just a day for couples. It’s a day for lovers and sometimes I think I would better off being in a relationship with my girls. So fosure I’m taking them to watch Girl Talk the Musical with me! I’m making a date with them.

The bunch of us are going to be getting a discount because quoting “GIRLFRIENDS” when you buy your tickets gets you 15% off the regular price. What more could a girl ask for? A great time with my favourite girls and an awesome discount! My BFF Liza is probably the best person to tell you about the perks of an all girl gathering. She and I have had one too many run-ins when we go out. Hahaha. Girlfriends are definitely forever. Just like diamonds. ;)

So grab your feather boas, best heels and get ready to party and move to all the fun and catchy tunes of Girl Talk. I’ll see you there at Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel Singapore girlies!

Almost Famous

In preparation for my one month stint in Brazil, searching for lovely dresses to wear during the pageant is one of my main priorities. I chanced upon Almost Famous, a local online boutique, and was delighted to find that it stocks the prettiest dresses and tops. I’m ashamed to admit that as a beauty queen, I have a terrible lack of appropriate dresses to wear for all sorts of events. After browsing their website, I decided I would add a couple of their casual and evening dresses to my stash of clothes.

Almost Famous Cross-the-line Dress

Their Cross-the-line dress caught my eye with its crew neckline at the front and back scoop neckline. Because it’s sleeveless and ends mid-thigh, its perfect for Brazil weather in the day. But what really blew me away was the comfortable material and its ability to hug your curves in all the right places. That’s highly important, in my opinion, if you want to make an impression.

Almost Famous Dresses

Then there’s the Duo-toned Paneled Dress that’s a fantastic quality bandage dress in stretchy fabric with a diagonally criss-cross pattern on the bust. Available in two colours, the black one is a fuss-free dress that will take you from any day to night event in the blink of an eye. But if you prefer something that’s a little cuter and dressier, the sweetheart neckline, front bow and intricate flower detailing of the next dress is something that will get heads turning.

Almost Famous Babydoll Corset Dress

Now am I glad I managed to get my hands on this very popular Babydoll Mesh Dress. With its tie up corset top and very cute mesh, pleated, flare skirt on the bottom with wired hem, this dress evokes a little bit of girly glamour without being overly cute. Paired with killer stilettos and a glamourous clutch, this sexy dress is something I’d definitely wear on dinner date or a formal party when I want to dress to impress.

Because items from Almost Famous are both lovingly sourced & carefully manufactured to be of superior quality and of desirable cuts, you can be sure you, the very fashionable lady, will find something you like at Almost Famous. On top of that, each new collection launched weekly consists of over 25 new items. That’s a 100 new items to choose from a month! Hooray to buying new clothes every month! If you’re a first time shopper, sign-up with their mailer and instantly get a FREE $15 store credit for your very first purchase at Almost Famous.

I’ve about 3 more weeks before I leave for Brazil. I’ll be following Almost Famous on their Facebook page to get exclusive previews, news and updates on their upcoming collections. I’ll even add a couple more of their dresses to my already existing stash should something catch my eye. You can never be too well-dressed when you’re meeting new people.

Think hair coloring at home is difficult to do? Liese (pronounced: lee-zay) bubble hair dye is here to change your mind about DIY hair coloring. Take a look at their TVC.

But more importantly, it’s the first of its kind in the DIY hair coloring industry. The easy to apply, no-drip formula allows you to DIY your hair without any mess AND achieve an even colour. All you need to do is massage the bubble dye in! With 10 different colours to choose from (I had a hard time picking when they offered the entire range to me), it’s no wonder Liese is the No.1 styling brand in Singapore. It’s also the first brand in the market to carry an entire range of treatment and styling products too!

I personally got to experience the simplicity of being able to transform my hair with their 3 step regime – colour, treatment and styling. Honestly, friends who know me well will attest to the very fact that I am such a quick fix girl. I cant stand sitting long hours in the salon chair but yet yearn for luscious locks like that you see in magazines. Those Japanese girls are too cute! *turns green with envy* But with Liese’s very own colour, treat and styling range, it’s hello gorgeous hair and goodbye long hours sitting in the salon chair! Hooray for easy to achieve lovely hair!

Honestly, everything about Liese is cute. The packaging is cute, the girls are cute and even the acccessories created for them are cute too!

When I went down for the product briefing last week, they gave each blogger this fluffy pink keychain. I immediately took it out of it’s packaging and attached it to my bag cause I love fluffy! But you too can get your hands on this cute little thing if you are the first 200 to click “Like” on their Facebook page chock full of videos and hair styling tips.

Bet you didnt know that Liese has a cocktail for your hair to enjoy. Heehee. I cant wait to tell you about that product. I love it! But you will have to come back to see the home-made video. I’ll be showcasing some Liese hairstyle tutorials in my next Liese post and the hairstyle I’m going to introduce draws on good ol’ techniques I used to use when I danced on stage. Haha. Ahhh.. Such good memories.

In the meantime, while I get the video ready, head on over to the Liese Facebook page to get your Liese charm. PS: You will have to fill up a short form to receive the keychain!

Stay tuned!

My friends have always commented how they like my eyeshadow and they’ve asked countless times how I do it. Or if they’re new to makeup, they ask me how to do makeup. In fact, I still owe some of my friends makeup lessons on how to apply eye makeup. Oops.

Being a beauty blog, it seems inevitable that makeup tutorial posts would feature in my content. But it can be time consuming to sort though the numerous photos and edit them, especially when it comes to an eyeshadow post with so many steps. Video tutorials always seemed a much better way of teaching how to do makeup. I, however, never got about to doing any because I never had the right equipment.

The Olympus PEN, also known as the Olympus EP1, thus, could not have come at a better time. It doesnt matter whether you call it a mini DSLR, compact DSLR or pocket DSLR because this little beauty comes packed with amazing functions despite having the smallest overall size (including lens) in the market. Because it’s so easy to carry around, I just had to bring it to New York with me. It was so convenient to carry. But dont look down on its size, the camera comes with your regular DSLR functions: controlling shutter speed, aperture, ISO, AND added cool features like the ART mode.

New York never looked so different. Six ART modes allow you to create cool effects on your photos without having to go through Photoshop at all. No time to edit your photos? The Olympus EP1 does it right in the camera itself! The different modes accentuate various things in your photos. For instance, the pop art filter enhances colours and would be great for enhancing the colours of eyeshadow too.

Futhermore, the EP1 shoots in HIGH DEFINITION and is perfect for making makeup video tutorials. But dont take my word for it, watch the HD video I made myself to see what I mean. For everyone who’s always wondered how to do eye shadow, you’ll get your questions answered today. I finally made a video to show you how I do it in my very first makeup video tutorial!

Dont you just love the colours of the video? Again, I didnt have to edit any of it. Hahaha. The same ART functions available in the still photo mode can also be applied to the video mode. HOW AWESOME IS THAT! Now you can make your very own arty film without post processing just by using any of these modes in your home video. I personally love Art 2 (Soft focus) because it makes everything so dreamy! Perfect for cam-whoring after you finish your makeup.

Art 6 (Pinhole), on the other hand, makes everything so vintage and quaint.

So you think this camera is cool with the HD video recording and 6 different ART modes? Well, the E-portrait function in the Scene selection just puts the cherry on top of the cake. I swear this camera has Photoshop in-built into it.

The E-portrait function eliminates blemishes from skin so complexion is flawless. The smoothing is even and subtle so you look naturally gorgeous in every photo. You dont have to lift a single finger to achieve a perfect complexion. Well, except maybe a finger to press the shutter on the camera of course.

With its toy camera compact size, white metal body, faux leather skinning, this mini DSLR is stylish and a perfect accessory for shutterbugs to carry about to capture all your precious moments.

But this is not all talk and no action, come 26th June 2010 Saturday 2pm – 3.30pm at Vivo City, I will personally be giving a mini guided tour on how the Olympus EP1 works (and possibly some makeup tips as well). You, of course, just have to be present for this awesome tour! You know it’s going to be a fun-filled day. And to make things even juicer for you, when you get home and blog about how much fun you had, you might actually win a brand new Olympus FE4030 digital camera! The most exciting post sent with their name, contact number, email address and blog URL to Olympus@nuffnang.com will stand a chance to own this 14 MEGAPIXEL camera.

Dont thank me, dont thank me. It’s a great opportunity I had to share. But if you really want to thank me (and you totally should because of my awesome video. HAHA), I need your help in voting my video as the best video on this site (VOTE HERE). I need your encouragement and words clicks of approval so I will make more makeup videos next time. But if cool new videos in the future are not enough, maybe a brand new camera will entice you to vote. One lucky voter wins the FE4030 camera just by voting for your favourite video! So what say you? Perhaps, if you voted for me and you won, I’ll teach you how to make makeup tutorials with your brand new camera. Hahahaha.

Carry my heavy as a brick bag, and the first question you’ll ask is, “What’s in your bag!?!” (exclamation marks optional.) I will admit, without hesitation, that I carry a truckload of beauty products in my bag on a daily basis. Heehee. I’m quite a smell person, so naturally perfumes and body mists make up the majority of the things I bring. But look carefully and you’ll wonder what a pink bunny wabbit is doing inside my bag.

Being a beauty junkie, when I was offered to try the Soap ‘n’ Sorbet Steam Cream, I jumped at the chance. Steam Cream! Is it anything like steam cake? Sounds yummy! Gimme gimme gimme.

It’s delish sounding name and the fact that it contains lavender oil made it hard to resist. Lavender oil has antiseptic components which can help heal and reduce inflamed and sore skin. It is also a known fact that lavender helps induce sleep on top of improving blood circulation. Take a deep breath with me now everybody. Ahhhh…..

Opening the screw cap, the cream is visibly slighty runny but smells absolutely delish. It is light weight and applies easily onto your hands, body or face. Massage the cream gently to your desired spot, and viola, it magically disappears leaving your skin softer to the skin and smelling oh-so-good.

This natural multi-purpose cream comes packaged in eco-friendly (yay for going green!) aluminium tins, each individually decorated with eye-catching art designed in Japan. Each design is run as a limited edition print, so presenting this to anyone as a present would be perfect. You wouldn’t be able to find another one like it! Porky Rabbit is now a member of my family of beauty products.

Chock full of natural and vegan ingredients like oatmeal infusion, orange flower water, almond oil, lavendar oil, organic jojoba oil and cocoa butter, SGD 26 is a reasonable price for quality skincare handmade in England. Using a steam-infused process, the result is this luxurious vegan cream that me, the skin nazi, would slather all over my body just to pamper myself.

Soap ‘n’ Sorbet, a delightfully easy-to-navigate Singapore website, is the first to stock this delish sounding Steam Cream for your enjoyment. The wide assortment of beauty and lifestyle products are thoughtfully categorised into various groups for easy searching. Be it bath, makeup, skincare or fragrance, you name it, they got it alongside the best-selling Steam Cream.

I already hear the beauty addicts cheering, but shopaholics, this is the best news for you. The Great Singapore Sale is still going on and will go on till the end of June. This means, A WHOLE MONTH of shopping! And on top of that, they just launched 12 new adorable designs that run in limited quantities. So, are you ready for some luxurious pampering? Let’s get Steam-y!

I am so jealous! Jonna Chen’s design of The Flora is the best entry as selected by promoters!

And guess what she wins?

Vouchers plus a Studio 15 laptop with her winning design!

How many people can say they got a laptop free and then proudly show off the design on the cover saying they designed it? Well, Jonna can. Lucky girl!

In fact, I really like her design. The Flora shows the lively and vibrant colours of Mother Nature through the use of varied colours and different sized flowers. Very pretty! I love the bold use of colours and large flower motifs. Very “environmentally friendly” I must say. Miss Earth approves. Haha.

A design voted MOST POPULAR by you is Ribbon Madness by Kelly Ong.

I had something like that in mind when I designed mine for my first post, but my final product didnt turn out exactly how I envisioned it. Hrm… Hahaha. She definitely did a MUCH better job at it than I did. Well done Kelly! Talented Kelly wins herself some lovely shopping vouchers.

Two brilliant designs by the two girls that show off their creativity and their own personality. But if you’re a fashionista who worries about matching nail colour to your outfits or accessories, you will be ecstatic when you hear about the new OPI series that Dell has to offer. Instead of ACTUALLY painting your laptop with nail polish, this probably is the next best thing.

Not only does the laptop look beautiful with whichever gorgeous nail lacquer shade you choose, the processor is actually a NEW 2010 Intel Core i5 Processor. This means smarter performance with a speed boost and faster multitasking, saving you time and increasing efficiency. Beauty with substance. HOW COOL IS THAT? Don’t we all wish we were built like that too?

With the launch of the Alice in Wonderland OPI nail polish collection not too long ago, I wonder if they have colours for that particular range on the Dell Studio 15 laptops. If you’re getting curious-er and curious-er about what other awesome designs Dell can offer, click on Make It Yours to see the other wonderful designs you can get on your laptop to Make It truly Yours.
