I first heard about the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm on Twitter from an overseas friend. Unfortunately, at that time, Maybelline Singapore didnt carry the product. Just recently, I’ve been on a mission for softer lips, so I decided that other than applying Vaseline before I go to bed at night, protecting my lips (read: SPF!) during the day was highly crucial too.

Maybelline Baby Lips

When Maybelline Baby Lips was first available in Singapore, it was too darling to resist. With its bright bold colour packaging, SPF 20 for protection against harmful UV rays and 4 available flavours, Energizing Orange, Smoothing Cherry, Menthol, Anti-Oxidant Berry, on top of a reasonable price tag (SGD $5.90), I threw out my old lip balm and got myself a brand new one. I had a tough time deciding which of the 4 flavours for fear of strong artificial flavouring.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Review

But the allure of smooth lips led me to pick Smoothing Cherry above all and I have to admit the Maybelline Baby Lips surprised me. Not only was the taste and small rather pleasant (no artificial cherry taste hooray!), the lip balm really works. Apply generously over your lips and within half an hour your lips are smoother and softer. It even leaves lips with a natural healthy sheen.

I know many people hate wearing lip balm, lip stick or anything of the sort because of the sticky feeling some lip products leave, but there’s no such thing when you’re wearing the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm. It really feels like you havent applied anything. Some would complain about the slight greasy feeling you get when you press your lips together, but I’ll live with that if the moisturizing effect was designed to last for up to 8 hours.

Things You Do Before You Sleep

We all have our daily beauty routines and recently I asked on Twitter about your nightly beauty routine. The things you do before you go to sleep is equally or possibly more important than what you do in the morning because your body repairs itself during the precious hours your eyes are shut. Here are some key things in my nightly beauty routine before bed:

Moisturise
Taking care of my basic skin care needs by moisturizing nightly, I’d have to say, ranks as one of the most important things you do before you sleep. Of course, this step should come after you’ve thoroughly removed your make up. Regardless of whether you have oily, dry or combination skin, proper cleansing and moisturizing is a crucial step in getting good skin.

Apply Vaseline
I was only reminded recently of the many uses of Vaseline as a beauty product. There are many things you can do with Vaseline but I use it as a lip moisturizer in particular. Apply a generous amount to your lips before you go to bed and you’ll wake up to softer lips every morning.

Apply Eye Cream
The skin around the eye is one of the thinnest and most delicate areas on our body. Not taking care of that delicate skin will increase the incidence of fine lines under the eyes and make you look tired. Applying eye creams nightly around the area will help keep your peepers looking fresh and awake for longer periods of time. Always use the fourth finger to lightly pat eye cream around the eye area to prevent any excess stress to the delicate eye area.

No water
As much as water is a necessity and essential for survival, drinking water less than 3 hours before you go to bed will only serve to give you puffy eyes and a bloated face the very next morning. Staying away from any food and drink just before you go to sleep is probably wise as your body is winding down and metabolic rate is following suit. If you, however, really must have that drink of water, I recommend a tiny shotglass… goldfish size.

Are these things you do before you go to bed at night? What other important steps are in your night beauty routine?

I’ve always believed that if you want your make up to last the entire day, investing in some of the best make up primers are the way to go. But despite not using them and sitting through long hours at a beach shoot and a casual rock shoot, the glominerals liquid foundation came out tops over shine, oil and disappearing formulation.

Blame it on my curious nature then, if the liquid foundation was such a winner, I had to find out more about glominerals makeup. It was timely investigation because I happened to stumble upon their very new Champagne Collection launched very recently here in Singapore.

I was very impressed by the velvety texture of the Eyeshadow Trio in Napoli (SGD 58). The three different shades of shadow to glide smoothly over your skin with no compromise on pigmentation. The trio’s colours are the perfect combination for everyday wear.

Also new in the glominerals Champagne Collection is the Bellini blush (SGD 47).

Again very impressed by how smooth and velvety the blush feels upon application, the Bellini blush is a winner in my books because it also creates a very healthy, rosy flush upon blending.

After the Brush Guards, I’ve been on a rampage with adding more brushes to my basic make up brush set. It was therefore hard for me to resist the Eye Texture Brush (SGD 42) used for building layers of eyeshadow all over the eye area. Of course, its very soft bristles didnt help my cause of resisting this make up brush.

Because glominerals makeup doesnt use parabens nor gluten-derived ingredients and has anti-inflammatory ingredients, it is suitable for sensitive skin types, including those with acne. I wouldnt recommend buying everything at one go given the steep price of the makeup; your skin might be happier but your wallet wont. But if you love quality make up and want something that cares for your skin, you will love glominerals makeup.
