When the glamourous SuperKawaiiMama was in town over the Chinese New Year period, I had the honour of learning how to do vintage make up from her in a one-on-one tutorial session. Who else would I glean vintage make up tips from but the vintage expert herself.

Initially, I thought learning how to do vintage make up was going to be tough because, as you can see from the above picture, we both have very different styles. The emphasis of my make up style generally focuses on the eyes. Primarily with the aim of creating a deep-set or smokey effect. SuperKawaiiMama‘s vintage style, however, does the opposite, throwing the spotlight on matte red lips and clean but well-defined eyes.
Before watching the vintage make up tutorial video, on a completely unrelated note, I’d just to point out that the above photo is probably the last time in this post you’ll see me looking like “me”. Haha. Now that you’ve heard that life-changing observation, it’s time to learn how to get the vintage look in this vintage make up tutorial with the brilliant SuperKawaiiMama.
In truth, the vintage make up look is not hard to do. To fully recreate the vintage style, there are some key elements you will need to have. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try a new make up style for Valentine’s Day, keep these vintage make up tips in mind when you’re doing your vintage make up look:

- Everything about the vintage look is matte. Sparkles, shimmer, glitter or anything shiny for that matter, was not part of that era.
- Use loose powder over your foundation for a flawless, shine-free complexion.
- Eyeliner only goes on the upper eyelids and never on the bottom.
- The winged/cat-eye eyeliner should follow your natural lash line and is a smooth curve. It should not look like a tick/check.
- Well-drawn and slightly arched eyebrows are an important part of vintage style.
- We used a dark pink blush to recreate a bright flush only on the apples of the cheeks.
- The bow of the lips is always well-defined in the vintage make up look.
- The bottom lip is drawn to look very full and luscious.

Having already learnt how to work the vintage make up look, I thought hair was going to be another challenge. But surprise surprise, it took less than 5 minutes to get this hair up! I’m saving the hair tutorial, however, till after I’ve perfected drawing my eyebrows.

NICE ^^
I will try it.. heee =^.^=
