Archive for December, 2010

If there’s one thing I love about doing What’s In My Make Up Bag is the fact that I get to document my make up stash. What with 2011 around the corner, it’s always good to do a stock take of my make up items before deciding to add anymore to my basic make up essential stash. When it comes to eye liners, I’m proud to say that they are not something I buy all the time. Although there are different types of eye liners to choose from (pencil, gel and liquid), I can safely say my all time favourite has to be gel eyeliners. The two I currently own are, in my opinion, the best gel eyeliners in the market.

Eyeliner

1. Kate Eyeliner Pencil in Black
2. Maybelline Expert Eyes Soft Kohl Eye Pencil in Black
3. H&M Eye Pen in White
4. Revlon Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner in Sultry Sapphire
5. L’OREAL Super Liner in Black
6. Kate Gel Eyeliner in Black
7. Gino McCray Auto Eyebrow & Eyeliner Pencil
8. M.A.C Eye Kohl in Smolder
9. Urban Decay Ink for Eyes Cream Eyeliner in Demolition
10. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils in Electric

It’s probably a good idea to have a mix of all three sorts of eye liner types to create varying definitions in your make up looks. I probably need to beef up my liquid eye liner collection so yes, I definitely need to find my tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner. Bah!

Update: Giveaway closed and everyone emailed.

Christmas Giveaway

It’s been more than 6 months since I last declared dweam.com a Singapore Beauty Blog. And during this time I’ve discovered that the best part about running a beauty blog is unearthing new make up tips, reviewing beauty products, creating new make up tutorials and in general dealing with everything make up and beautiful! But for me, the true beauty of a beauty blog is sharing all that information all with you, my readers. I wouldn’t do it if not for all your endless support. You guys make my blogging experience beautiful.

Because it’s Christmas time, a season for giving, other than just giving you solely make up tips, I’m going to actually give out make up to you! It’s dweam.com’s way of saying “Thank You” and “Merry Christmas” to each and every one of you reading this.

This giveaway is simple. You dont have to answer any questions. All you need to do is leave your name and working email in the comment section and 23 random commenters will get a sample sized Silk Mineral eyeshadow and a pair of eyelashes. You probably already know my obsession with eyeshadows and these Silk Mineral eyeshadows are great because you can apply them wet or dry for two different finishes. I’ll be randomly giving the colours out and you can pair your funky new eyeshadows with a pair of bling eyelashes to complete your party look for any Christmas bashes or the New Year countdown.

Does that sound good and easy enough? The giveaway will run till 29th December (Wednesday) 12 noon and is limited to Singapore addresses.

Merry Christmas lovelies!

I will be honest with you. I never really paid much attention to the vast number of tokidoki’s other products until recently. Sure, I’ve seen tokidoki for LeSportsac and the iconic Cactus Friends on toys and apparel. But it wasn’t till the beginning of 2010 that tokidoki collaborated exclusively with Sephora to launch it’s brand new line of tokidoki cosmetics that I really sat up and paid close attention. Well, that’s what you get for being a beauty blogger.

I first saw tokidoki cosmetics in Sephora when I was in New York. It wasnt till a couple of months back that Sephora Singapore brought it here to our shores. So, when I heard from HereBeGeeks that the very artist behind tokidoki itself, Simone Legno, would be at the Singapore Toys, Games and Comic Convention here on our very tiny island, I decided I HAD to meet he who gave life to tokidoki’s colourful characters.

tokidoki at Sinapore Toy Games and Comic Convention

Collecting my pass from HereBeGeeks for the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention, I swiftly entered the hall and made a beeline for the tokidoki booth hoping I’d catch a glimpse of Simone Legno there. Luck was not on my side (and they didnt sell make up at the booth), so I idled through the aisles of other interesting booths waiting for the official signing of Simone Legno at 4.45pm. Walking through the exhibits, I was counting on the odd chance that I might run into him somewhere in the convention hall. Sadly, it was not meant to be.

It wasnt till much later when I was watching a showcase by the stage that I got a tip off from the team at HereBeGeeks about Simone Legno‘s whereabouts. He had started an unofficial signing at the tokidoki booth and was actually drawing a character on everyone’s item. I immediately dashed to the scene of the crime to get my items autographed.

In typical Singaporean style, a line quickly formed for this unofficial signing yet he accommodated to all the requests. I’m not normally fangirly, but something got to me that day. I got Simone Legno to sign my tokidoki teeshirt first and then queued up a second time to shamelessly ask him to sign the limited edition tin from the SingPost tokidoki x MyStamp collection before asking to take a photo. What did I tell you about him being too nice?

The MyStamp Jigsaw Puzzle set is one of the limited 2,000 sets worldwide but mine’s super special because only mine has a picture of the girl! He’d normally draw one of the Cactus Friends along with his signature but I decided I wanted something different and I got it! Now if you’ll excuse me, I really have to find that tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner that Arrisa got me from Sephora San Francisco so I can put my tokidoki stash in a secret hiding place.

Wait, I know what you’re thinking. Grooming tips for men?! Before you faint and call the ambulance, let me explain myself. As you probably already know, dweam.com is a Singapore Beauty Blog. As much as 99.9% of my posts have been dedicated to beauty tips for women, my sole purpose of blogging has always been to make everyone beautiful. A month ago, I tweeted that precise statement and instantly got a response from a bunch of guys who asked if my audience included men.

The mere thought of being men being “beautiful” probably sounds unlikely but nevertheless, I said, “Why not?”. No body ever said that there couldnt be beauty tips for men. Of course, no one actually calls them beauty tips for men. After consulting the men around me, they agreed grooming tips for men definitely sounds like a more appropriate and macho term.

Well-groomed men come across as more polished and definitely more attractive than your average mortal. If a guy carries himself well, smells amazing and looks clean, he’s bound to turn to some heads for all the right reasons. Compared to someone who’s got snot hanging from his nose, greasy hair and smells of garbage, the only thing he’ll be turning is noses up in the air. Now boys, I know the concept of “taking care of yourself” seems as foreign as life on another planet, but let’s start with some easy grooming tips for men to get you on your way.

Men's Grooming Tips

1) Using deodorant or antiperspirant
Deodorant helps to mask or remove the smell that potentially may emanate should you perspire. So, you get to be naturally sweaty yet still smell nice. Antiperspirants, as the name suggests, prevent you from perspiring, therefore preventing any smell from resulting at all.

Can you imagine looking mighty fine in your brand new silk shirt and dazzling cuff links. But when you raise your arm to call the waiter, to get the file on the top shelf or simply to just stretch, you look over to your left and see the look of horror on the nearest female’s face. Why? Because sweaty underarm patches are not cool. FACT.

Firstly, sweaty underarm patches ruin your very nice shirt. Secondly, they smell. It’s no big secret that everybody perspires. I’m not going to lie and say girls smell like flowers all the time. I’ve been around girls who stink and science has shown that women actually have more bacteria under their arms than men. More bacteria means more bad smell. The secret, however, to smelling like a you live in a perfume store is to either mask, eliminate or prevent bad smell.

2) Rinsing with mouth wash
I’ll give everyone the benefit of doubt and assume everyone knows how to brush their teeth. Flossing definitely gives you extra points, but if you’re too lazy to do either one, here’s the next best thing: CHEAT with mouth wash. Mouth wash cleans your mouth of bad bacteria. No bad bacteria means no bad smell! A couple of rinses makes a girl wanna kiss you more.

3) Spraying cologne
My girl friends and I really appreciate a man who smells clean. We know we cant always ask for the moon. But we say if he smells amazing, he scores an extra 10 points immediately. This is where cologne comes in.

Some smells make me swoon (in a good way) while others just make me dizzy and want to throw up. Good smells usually come from pretty bottles like this. Inside these pretty bottles is liquid that smells nice. Pay attention boys, this is what we call cologne. Cologne is worn after you’ve showered and used deodorant or antiperspirant. I have a few favourites that I like my boys to wear. In fact, every girl has a preference for a certain smell, so I’ll leave you to find out which cologne it is in particular that drives your dream girl crazy.

If you’ve made it this far and havent given up reading, I applaud you. Because of that, I’m going to try my luck and push things a little further. On top of the three things I mentioned above, I challenge the boys reading this to maintain a basic skin care routine just like the girls. Nothing fancy, just a simple skin care routine of washing, toning and moisturising for clearer skin.

I’m sure the girls reading this post would agree that they go through some sort of pain to make themselves look better and sometimes we wish the boys could see it. Perhaps walking in our shoes might be the best way to truly understand what us girls go through. Since the new year is coming around, maybe it might just be a good time to make a resolution to take better care of yourself boys. Like I always say, why be good-looking when you can be better-looking? ;)

I know many of you would probably say my fears of growing old and aging skin are unwarranted. But I feel as though I’ve come to an age where I have to start taking care of myself. I’m not THAT old, but say it’s definitely better to start protecting your skin early than leave it till too late. I’m only in my mid 20s but I keep going on and on about how UV rays from the sun is bad for your skin. If I’m such a nazi about sun protection, you probably should expect that I’d be big on anti-aging products too.

OLAY Regenerist

So when I heard that the OLAY Regenerist range works at a cellular level to help skin firmness, it got me thinking. We’re all a big bunch of cells and cells behave and respond to the environment to produce various results. If you can control the way the cells on your skin behave or even change their behaviour, you’d actually be providing skin care that’s more targeted. If it’s more targeted then of course you can expect better results. It’s focused and addresses the specific problem. That’s the premise that OLAY works on.

It is with this in mind that OLAY developed their two new products: OLAY Regenerist Microsculpting Serum and the OLAY Regenerist Super Structure Cream SPF 30. These were specifically made just for the purposes of reducing fine lines and wrinkles. I’ve mentioned previously how fine lines can add years to your appearance, so it’s highly important to maintain firmness of the skin on the face and neck for a youthful appearance. Using OLAY Regenerist is like getting a facelift* in a bottle because it firms up skin.

In the video below, you’ll see how after using the newly launched OLAY Regenerist Microsculpting Serum alongside the OLAY Regenerist Micro-sculpting Cream, my skin becomes more taut and firm after just one use. Thanks to a special aminopeptide that helps boosts cellular production of collagen and elastin, skin is instantly rejuvenated. I was amazed by how bouncy my skin was after application of the OLAY products. Coupled with a face massage, you’ll improve facial tone and soften the hard contours of your face.

Remember how I mentioned sunblock as one of the most basic skin care needs? Well, the OLAY Regenerist Super Structure Cream SPF30 gives you sun protection and more. It is designed to not only keep skin hydrated but also helps protects skin damages from UV rays. It’s a two in one! Perfect for the busy girl on the go. By keeping your skin hydrated and rebuilding collagen, your skin will regain its youthful firmness in no time.

OLAY Superstructure Cream

*Epidermal level only. When used regularly and continuously. Results not equal to cosmetic procedure.

It’s time to bring out your best dresses because it’s party time! Other than laying my hands on all the new make up, the best thing I find about the end of the year is the parties you get to attend. With parties come the perfect excuse to get dressed up to the nines. So go on, pull out your most glamourous dress, deck yourself out in your most brilliant make up and you’re all set to paint the town red.

The only problem I find with having so many parties to attend is repetition of clothes. You definitely dont want to be stuck with the same outfits for all your events. At the same time, blowing the month’s budget is definitely out of the question. So what do you do? Well, I turn to the shop that manufactures its own quality clothes inspired by designer fashion houses at a fraction of the actual price.

Fashion moguls would agree that the little black dress is one of the fashion staples. Without a doubt, monoxious would agree wholeheartledly on the choice of colour too. Thus, this Armani Exchange inspired dress with a cross front is a stunning piece to get if you dont already have a little black dress to turn to.

For SGD 29, this body contouring and sillhouette defining dress is set to be your best go-to dress for any occasion. In fact, it was set in the style of Victoria Beckham and I naturally had to take a photo with the Miss Earth girls from UK while wearing it. Haha.

If your days are filled with high teas and shopping sprees, AngelicoBeBe’s full length jumpsuit is my new favourite thing to wear. Soft to the touch and comfortable to live in, this ASOS’s inspired Open Back Jumpsuit is of super quality because it’s self-manufactured.

ASOS Inspired Jumpsuit

Married with a gathered waist and plunging v-neckline flowing seamlessly to a pair of straight cut pants, the cutting at the back gives an illusion of a slim and defined waist and in my opinion, shows just the right amount of skin. The full-length jumpsuit fits perfectly and gives you a slim and long silhouette. Instead of paying close to £ 70 for the original, AngelicoBeBe’s lovingly manufactured one goes for a mere SGD 34. Much too little to pay for quality like this.

Little Black Dress

If I’m getting ready for a night out on the town with my girls, I pick AngelicoBeBe’s self-manufactured little black dress with corset detail. Inspired by Guess and Victoria’s Secret, this sexy little number is the perfect outfit for a first date or a night of letting your hair loose in a club. Steal this look for SGD 28 from their website or get the dress in 2 colours for SGD 52!

I’m not entirely big about designer clothing because I am a beauty blogger. But when stylish designer fashion clothing is brought to you and made easily available at such affordable prices, online shopping is much too tempting! I’ll say it definitely pays to look good and AngelicoBeBe can help you achieve that with their original, self-manufactured items. Because they offer quality stunning pieces at reasonable prices, it’s no wonder that their items are always disappear in an instant!

This December, AngelicoBeBe is giving away a Coach wristlet to help complete your outfit. Every dress you buy entitles you one chance to win and you definitely want to get as many chances as you can before the lucky draw ends on the 31st December. So, to get your hands on their fabulous clothing for your next Christmas party AND land yourself a brand new Coach wristlet, head on down to their AngelicoBeBe’s store and happy shopping!
