When you hang out a lot with a food blogger who’s obsessed with sweets, you naturally get influenced by his obsessions. Thankfully though, as a beauty blogger, my obsession with all things sweet didnt come in the form of food. When I get fixated on something, I really go all out. My current obsession revolves around nails. So for sure I had to do up a set of Halloween nails in light of this spooky holiday. And when two obsessions combine, it didnt come as any surprise when I looked to the candy of Halloween for inspiration for some Halloween nail designs.

Halloween Nails

Even though we dont exactly celebrate Halloween here in Singapore and you might not get to dress up in your sluttiest scariest going around trick-or-treating, you could always try out some Halloween nail designs just to invoke the spirit of all things ghoulish. I tried my hand (literally) at dressing up my nails with some Halloween nail art and now have to try to resist eating my nails since they’re candy inspired. Hahaha.

It’s quite a no brainer how-to get these Halloween nails. Even if zombies ate your brains, you’d still be able to do it. Haha. Simply paint stripes across your nails using the brightest nail polishes you can find. After which, all you have to do it slather several coats of glitter nail polish over and you’re done. While you wait for your nails to dry, make sure your lawn is well protected so zombies cant get to you and ruin your gorgeous Halloween nail art. Hahaha. If you’re a big fan of Plants vz Zombies, yes, you’ll realise I have been playing the game too much. Hahaha.

Have a Happy Halloween! Boo!

Every holiday season nearing Christmas, everyone’s favourite make up brand MAC releases a massive collection. When I say massive, I really mean it. The MAC A Tartan Tale Collection for Holiday 2010 consists of everything from lipsticks, Dazzleglass Creme, eyeshadow palettes, pigments, Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner, blush, nail lacquer to bags and even brushes! I still remember clearly lusting over the collections before and I guess this year won’t be any different.

Here’s what MAC had to say about their MAC A Tartan Tale Collection 2010:

Do you hear the bonny bagpipes on the moors, or Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols? One in each ear? We’re telling a slightly twisted Tartan Tale to celebrate holiday 2010, in all its posh, punk, ancestral, anarchic, noble and naughty glory. Royal and raunchy, colours and patterns collide, fantasies come true, punk faeries take flight, with poetic new looks for Eyes to gaze long upon Glamora Castle: Dazzleglass Creme like Radiant Jewels; Lipstick kisses from The Faerie Glen; Black Swan Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner; Family Crest Pigment; My Highland Honey from the heather in Powder Blush; Sexy Style Clan Nail Lacquer; and forever Zoom Fast Black Lash mascara, for the Dark Prince, or Princess. Enter A Tartan Tale, and be transformed!

MAC’s Holiday Collections are usually to die for limited products. The various face and eye kits are particularly lovely as they all come stocked with MAC’s best sellers.

In fact these tartan prints kinda remind me of Harry Potter and I LOVE Harry Potter. I definitely want to get my hands on these gorgeous babies. Hogwarts anyone?

Technically perfumes arent exactly what’s in my make up bag because it would be impossible to keep them inside, but fragrances are an essential part of beauty. I personally believe that not only should you look good, you also have to smell good too. I have quite a stash of women’s perfumes in my cupboard because I’m quite a big fragrance person. Perfumes for women are a dime a dozen, and they come in all sorts of various smells. Although I love to smell good, there’s no one particular brand out of the many perfume brands that I religiously stick to.

Perfumes for Women

I take turns using all my women’s fragrances. Here are my favourite perfumes for women from various perfume brands:

1. Calvin Klein Beauty
2. Ever Bilena Pink Water Tulip
3. The Body Shop Dreams Unlimited
4. Chanel Chance
5. Lanvin Eclat D’arpege
6. Anna Sui Dolly Girl
7. Victoria Secret’s Amber Romance
8. Bvlgari BLV
9. Ralph Lauren Romance

In fact, I am so determined to smell good even on the go. So much so that I always keep a bottle or two of women’s fragrances in my work bag! For a closer peek into what I lug around everyday, you gotta see bagspace.sg for what’s in my bag!

If anyone were to ask me what constitutes a good eyeshadow, I’d immediately say intense pigments. Having intense and dense pigments is exactly what gives your eyeshadow a stronger, truer colour payoff and L’Oreal pushes out it’s latest L’Oreal High Intensity Pigments (HIP) collection to do exactly that. Inspired by make up artist James Kaliardos and his muse Linda Evangelista, L’Oreal HIP is meant to bring the world of professional make up to the masses. Singapore is the first in Asia to see the L’Oreal High Intensity Pigments in stores.

LOREAL Hip Pigments Eyeshadow

I got to test out a couple of these shadows and my pick came from one of these four L’Oreal HIP eyeshadows: Riotous, Flamboyant, Adventurous and Platinum. Naturally being the smokey eye lover, I went straight for the black eyeshadow. I currently swear by one and only one black eyeshadow, NARS Pandora, because it is the best black eyeshadow I’ve come across so far. That thing is so black even monoxious approves.

Having already found the best black eye shadow, L’Oreal’s HIP Eyeshadow duo Platinum, thus paled in comparison. It does, however, do a decent job of giving a smokey eye if you havent already landed yourself the NARS Pandora one.

Personally, the star of this new L’Oreal HIP collection is the HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner. Touted to be “a liquid pencil eyeliner in rich metallic shades”, the L’Oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner won me over with its brilliant intensity, smooth application and staying power. It comes in four stunning colours: Black Shock, Violet Volt, Silver Lightning and Gold Charge. I of course, am going to get the black eyeliner. I’m sure monoxious would be proud. Hahaha.

After getting my glitter OPI nail polish from the Burlesque Glitter collection, I had to decide what to do with the nail polish. Naturally, I couldn’t let all that crazy glitter go to waste. What was the best way to showcase these obscenely glittery nail polishes? Well, after seeing several glitter gradient nails including Ling’s, I decided to do the same. The entire procedure is rather simple yet the results are absolutely fantastic. Because good things must be shared, here are the steps to my glitter gradient nail tutorial.

What you need for this nail tutorial:
- base coat
- a nude/pale pink nail polish
- fine holographic glitter nail polish
- black nail polish
- top coat

Lastly, the star of the show: OPI Burlesque Glitter Collection nail polish.

OPI Nail Polish Burlesque Collection

You can choose to use whatever colour glitter you want for the tips but I picked Simmer and Shimmer for this look cause I was inspired by Adam Lambert’s awesome blue glitter when I saw him at the F1 Rocks concert. The glittery blue eyeshadow and blue glitter in his hair was nothing but eye-catching. It was a glitter explosion yall! So, we’re gonna invoke some of that glamness onto our nails with the Simmer and Shimmer OPI nail polish.

Nail Tutorial: Glitter Gradient

1) After applying your base coat and the pale pink nail polish to all your nails, dab the black nail polish onto the tips of your nails. You dont have to be neat about this step because in the next step, you’ll cover the black nail polish with glitter. At the end, you’ll realise black polish on the edges help to intensify the glitter gradient nail.

2) Now comes the fun part. Starting from the middle of your nail, spread a thin layer of glitter all the way to the nail tip. Be as light handed as you can for this first layer and dont be afraid if the polish looks thin. The next couple of layers will sufficiently make up for the lack of sparkly.

3) Once the first layer is slightly dry, paint your second coat, focusing the Simmer and Shimmer glitter on the part of the nail with the black nail polish. Sweep a third layer of OPI nail polish just at the nail tips to really pack the glitter at the ends. What I really like about glitter gradient nails is the fact that you never have to be neat! Hahaha!

4) To fully complete the glam glitter experience, apply a layer of fine holographic glitter generously over the entire nail. I used a $2 Daiso glitter nail polish before painting a shiny top coat to seal everything in. Once you’re done with these steps, draw up your darkest eyeliner and say hello to Glambertness!

Sounds simple enough? Ready, get set, glam up your nails!

Miss Earth Singapore crown

Some say winning a title puts the world on your shoulders. So you might say winning Miss Earth Singapore 2009 puts the Earth on my shoulders, but I beg to differ. Sure with the title, crown and sash came many responsibilities; responsibilities to my organization, to the lovely ladies in my court, my friends and family. But the most important responsibility I had was to Mother Nature. It’s been a year since I last landed the title and on Thursday, I handed over my crown.

I had mixed feelings about that night. My journey the past year has been a truly memorable one. Winning the title last year sounded like a huge calling: one woman for the environment. But the best thing about this newly bestowed power was finding out I was not alone in my cause. I realized that last November in the Philippines where I met 89 other gorgeous women who were all passionate about the same thing: creating change for our one home. We were all allies, competing allies if you must. But we were competing to see who would be able to make the biggest change for our planet; we were competing to be the voice of Mother Earth. One winner emerged but the month long challenge made us all winners in our own right. We could carry proudly of the growth in our hearts back home to our countries to further advocate for a better future. For me, the experience and growth from within was made all the more sweeter when I placed Top 16 internationally. The amazing experience of spending an entire month in a foreign country with beauties from all over the world will never be forgotten. I am thoroughly glad to have met these strong and beautiful ladies from all over the world who I know, without a doubt, will do good for our Earth.

Miss Earth 2009

Other than the Philippines, my journey as Miss Earth Singapore has brought me to many places, both literally and figuratively. I quote my very dear friend Miss Philippines Earth 2009 also Miss Earth Air 2009, Sandra Seifert, in her farewell speech: “The best thing about having all three (a crown, sash and title) is that when I speak, people listen.” Doors have opened and opportunities have been aplenty from the very beginning, and I am quite sure they will not stop.

My reign may have ended, but the winning never stops. Thus it heartens me, to know that my growth as an ambassador for our planet will not stop the once despite having handed the crown over. It is with our future children in mind that I will continue to push for greater awareness in the green movement. I am excited for the beautiful girl who has succeeded me. I have faith she will continue to do good and carry the title of Miss Earth Singapore to greater heights.

Miss Earth Singapore 09

Of course, my journey as Miss Earth Singapore 2009 in the last year would not be complete without the individuals who have lent their support to the Miss Earth Singapore organization. To my friends and my one and only beloved family, I thank you for standing by me unfailingly. You have supported me every single step of the way and I would not be the person I am today without your constant guidance.

Whether you’ve met me personally or not, I hope I have, in some way or another, inspired you to take baby steps forward in protecting our environment. I congratulate the new batch of girls for putting up an amazing show on Thursday and to my new queen Marcielle Wong, I am certain you will have the once-in-a-lifetime experience that only every girl can dream of in Vietnam if you open your mind.
