Keeping with the theme of blue eyeshadows, I used the SilkMineral Sari Blue with a light eyeshadow base to create a look for everyday wear.

It seems really hard to wear blue eyeshadow out on a daily basis and only one profession has their girls decked out in it. Those girls never fail to look good in it dont you agree! The key idea for daily wear, however, is to keep it LIGHT and pick a blue that is not too intense.

For this look, the Sari Blue had a hint of green which was quite unexpected. Green complements the asian skin tone really well and when blended with a light all over eye colour, is perfect for opening up eyes.

Here’s my finished product.

Face of the day

Everyday Minerals mineral foundation in Olive Golden Medium
M.A.C Pinch-o-peach blush

I really love how sparkly the SilkMineral eyeshadows are! And one reader who got the previous eyeshadow in the National Day Giveaway sent me an email saying:

Well, I was a little surprised at how sparkly it turned out to be at first! It was also kind of messy cos I’ve never tried loose eyeshadow before. :p But the colour is very natural and the glitter is just right after some time, and I like it very much! Haha… Thanks for sending it to me! Hmmm, I think I’ll most likely use it when I want to brighten up my eyes without looking as if I’m wearing too much makeup. :)

Awwww… I love mail like this.

But you now can get your hands on the eyeshadow and try it out for yourself! Of course, this time the eyeshadows are all BLUE. Two are the exact same colours I used in my blue tutorial: Sari Blue, Blue Pearl and Pulse Alive.

It’s easy this time around. Just leave your name and working email in a comment and the FIRST THREE COMMENTERS get the eyeshadows from SilkMineral!

Remember, the giveaway is limited to Singapore and Malaysia addresses.

Ready, steady, spaghetti, GO!

Ahhhhhhh!

My complexion is a little oilier than usual. I can see the tiny oil bumps on my face and pimples have appeared in the weirdest of places like behind my ear. Haha. However, when that happens, I usually know my period is coming in the next week or so.

I checked the seekrit sheet Whisper provided and it says I’m spotty thanks to the higher level of progesterone. But I wouldnt worry too much about it because from personal experience, it goes away soon enough.

It does makes me GREEN thinking about my will-be glowy skin once this pre-menstrual stage clears. So, in the mean time, to help combat the spotty complexion, I’m going to follow in the footsteps of The Hulk and enjoy a mint mask which helps calm my skin and absorb the excess oil while surfing the Facebook page for more seekrits of the cycle.

RAWR! =D

I think blue is one of those colours that can be quite tricky to wear. So I decided to do a tutorial on it and surprisingly the effect turned out a little Lady Gaga-ish. We have to thank her for bringing back the rage of wearing cool blues, silver and platinum.

For this tutorial, I got beautiful Michelle to help me as my model using the eyeshadows from SilkMineral.

Dont you just love the final effect? Perfect for a night out in town. I’m immensely proud of my makeup skill too! Hahaha.

If you dare, you can pair the look with blood red lips for a 50s inspired look. I prefer shiny nude pink lips with contoured cheeks so the focus stays on your pretty peepers. Muah!

Sometimes when Im in a rush but need a mani/pedi done, I usually choose the pedicure over the mani.

Im ashamed to say, I have no patience.

No patience for my nails to dry that is. I don’t like waiting for my nail polish to dry because it incapacitates me. There are so many things that need to be done yet mustnt be because your nails are still wet.

I am also particular about getting marks or any imperfections on my freshly painted nails.

Hence, the dilemma.

I LIKE having my nails done but I suspect I have ants in my pants for I can never sit still for that half an hour to let it dry. More often than not, I’m in a hurry to get my nails done but as you already know, a quick paint job is hardly ever well-done.

So I think this is the perfect solution for girls like me who need a manicure on the go.

Quick dry nail polish in one application.

You can pick those coloured ones, but personally I prefer clear top or base coats. They add shine to your nails making them look that little bit more polished without the hassle. Even better if you get those with strengthening properties because other than beautifying your nails, they protect your nails too!

The best part? One coat is all you need! Plus they dry in no time flat.

I’m happy today’s here!

Why? Because I’ve got the secrets of the cycle in my hands! Wahahahaha.

It came at a great time too because Im due to have my period.

When I was approached to join the “Happy It’s Here” initiative by Whisper I immediately thought YES! It was a wonderful opportunity to better educate myself about my body. Knowing is half the battle won! Im such an information junkie like that. Heehee.

Something like this happens once every month and why not see what it’s really about. I mean, when we first got our periods we were ecstatic and so were the people around us.

It was the first step into womanhood.

But now after so long, I have to admit to not keeping a good track record of when my period is because I can honestly tell by the signs my body gives. I have to admit at this point I cannot remember when the last time my period was. *guilty face* However, I’d say Im pretty good at telling when my period is coming. Yes, we complain about how it makes us feel bloated but then there are times when I do feel SKINNIER after my period. True fact!

So this is my attempt to track the various stages of my cycle and share its secrets with you so we can appreciate the little things that make us women.

I am woman, hear me ROAR!

I am currently in the pre-menstrual stage (Day 21-28) of the cycle and experiencing bloatedness/water retention. Eep! But it gives me the excuse to dress up in them sweet babydolls. Yay! Oh and definitely have to cut down on consuming too much coffee. Had too much last week, explains my water retention. Gonna be a good girl and drink more water instead of dehydrating fluids.

The MES girls had our second shoot today. Compared to the first shoot we did, it was consistent with the standard beauty pageant guidelines. Not that there actually is one, but basically we first had to go through the standard beauty pageant poses before going into classy and elegant ones.

Not exactly my forte seeing how I’m prone to wacky and out of the this world poses alongside nonsensical randomness.

Still, makeup was nicely done and all the girls came dressed to impress in their lil black dresses.

Michie on set.

And then there was the bikini.

Not sure how my photos will turn out but I’m hoping they’ll turn out great judging by what my mum got on camera.

MY LEGS LOOK SOOOO AWESOME HERE! Oh yeah.

I have a gut feeling that my dress shots will turn out better than my bikini one. Do I look royal enough? Haha.

Shu Uemura with it’s Lash Bar has introduced some of the most dramatic and glamourous eyelashes. While some of the fantasy and over the top ones should be reserved for the pages of high end fashion shoots, they have a wearable glamourous range that I personally like. These come set with dazzling diamantes in brilliant blue and gorgeous gold.

Because I love falsies and love DIY-ing, I decided to get started on my own pair of bling lashes for almost 1/5 the price.

Things you need:

- a pair of your favourite eyelashes
- Epoxy glue (you can get them at most craft stores like Spotlight)
- Swarovski crystals or small gems slightly bigger than your lash bone

Alternatively, you can be a lazy girl like me and opt for a bottle of glitter nail polish.

With the crystals, to jazz up your lashes, all you have to do is apply a thin layer of the epoxy glue to your lash bone and then carefully apply each gem along the lash bone and let dry for about 6 hours. You can customise what colour gems you prefer on your lashes and might even consider putting rainbow coloured gems to match your outfit! It’s a little more tedious but the results are fantastic.

Using the glitter nail polish is much easier.

Just apply a thin layer of polish using the nail brush till desired amount of glitter is on your lash bone. Wait till the previous layer is dry before applying the next one.

You should end up with something similar to this pair I did myself.

I personally like polishes with glitter bits like the ones from The Face Shop. They go for about 9 bucks a bottle and you can touch up your lashes whenever!

If you decided to embark on this DIY project, let me know if it works for you like it did for me!

In the meantime, some fake lash rules:

DO buy different lengths of lashes and trim them so they fit comfortably on your eye.

DON’T forget to apply a slick of black liner (preferably liquid) on top of the upper lashes so the falsies blend in.

DO soften false lashes by bending them before application.

DON’T forget to curl your own lashes before applying false lashes on. You want them to point in the same direction as the false lashes do.

DO dot a little extra glue on the corners of the false lashes where they tend to come undone.

The one where we looked like we had bamboo shoots growing out of out heads.

With the long weekend approaching and a time to celebrate our Nation’s 44th Birthday, it’s time to get creative with your eye-makeup! If you’re going to the National Day Parade like why not take pride in our national colour and jazz up your eye-makeup with a tinge of red.

I shall be patriotic this weekend and in the process show you 2 looks with red undertones using a bunch of mineral eyeshadows from Silk Mineral.

Look 1 – The Copper Sun

Step 1 – Using Pearl White, highlight the middle of your eyeball; the part that protrudes the most.

Step 2 – The key colour for this look is Pink Copper – a copper (reddish/brown) eyeshadow that has very slight pink undertones. Colour the inner and outer corners of your eye up to your eye socket.

Step 3 – With a soft fluffy brush, blend OUTWARDS into the Pink Copper starting from the white. This helps to soften the copper colour and melts both colours into each other.

As you can see in the second picture, when your eyes are opened, the colours fade into one another smoothly without any obvious line.

Step 4 – With your favourite eyeliner (I used Kate Gel Eyeliner in Black here), line your eyes, curl your lashes and stick on flirty falsies to finish off the look!

If on the other hand, you decide to have a girly night or a romantic dinner after the National Day Parade, smokey eyes might be the order of the day. This time however, I’ll use a soft pink to give a sweet yet sexy appeal to your usual smokey eyes.

Look 2 – The Sweet Siren

Step 1Coral Sparks covers half your lids starting all the way from the inner corner of your eye.

Step 2 – You can opt to use black on the outer corners of your eye, but in this case, I chose a shimmery grey from ZA 10 carat eyeshadow palette and brushed it on the outer corners of the eyes, also sweeping a little just under the eyebrows and the inner corners.

Step 3 – Blend blend blend! Blend the grey color over Coral Sparks with a windscreen wiper motion to smoothen the colours out.

Step 4 – For added effect, line your bottom eyelid with the same grey till halfway.

Step 5 – Finally, line your upper eyelids and stick on a pair of dramatic eyelashes for that va-va-voom effect!

Viola!

Now you’re all set to attend a parade and party the night away!

To recreate the above looks, Im giving away 3 eyeshadows sponsored kindly by Silk Mineral. 2 are the exact same ones I used in the tutorials!

I have Coral Sparks, Pink Copper and Cotton Candy (an orangey pink which you can use for both day and night in both looks) to give out and all you have to do is answer the following question:

Mineral makeup from Silk Mineral has no Talc, no Boron Nitrate and no Bismuth Oxychloride. True or false?

Leave your answer with your name and working email in the comments section and the FOURTH, EIGHTH & NINTH commenters will stand a chance to win one of these three beautiful colours!

Deadline for qualifying comments is Saturday 8th August 2359hr.

All comments will be screened.

Although it’s still summer here (and perpetually will be in Singapore) Autum is fast approaching in the major fashion capitals. They have been pushing out the hottest clothing for the coming cold weather and accompanying that is the coolest makeup trends.

4 prominent trends were spotted on the runway from top designers and trust M.A.C to come up with collections that will help you achieve these hot looks.

I got a sneak peek of the collections that will be launching in Sept/Oct and I WANT EM ALL! Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry from M.A.C, was down in Singapore a couple of weeks back to show us how to achieve these runway inspired looks.

The first of 4 prominent trends where strong eyes were the main focus was aptly titled LID VICIOUS.

Think smudged, greasy, morning-after eyes and you have this season’s attitude driven and deliberate darkness. This is definitely my favourite style because I’m such a sucker for dark, smoky eyes.

With their launch of Style Black come October, I am going to dance in darkness with their Mineralise Eyeshadow in Blue Flame and Cinderella and Greasepaint Stick. The latter promises to spin you right to the depths of smoky, punky glamour. Just look at how he demonstrated the use of the eyeshadow on the model. So punk rock-chick. I’m loving it!

Who’s That Girl? with the red, hot lips?

The next trend Greg spotted on the runway this season was a flamboyant, neon lip contrasted against satiny skin. When it comes to pulling out that individual element, the rule this seasons appears to be: if in doubt, do a lip. And a perfectly lined, exorbitantly coloured one at that.
I’ve always wanted to do a traffic red stopping lip, but never had to guts to.

Greg shows how to transform your matt red lipstick from flat to fab. Instead of your usual matt red lipstick, you can make yourself runway ready, with a hint of Dazzleglass Creme. It makes the models lips super shiny and look like it’s bee-stung! I totally want that! I can’t resist super shiny gloss. It’s hard to say no to lips looking like they’ve been injected with too much silicone.
