To me, sleep is important. I am so not a morning person! I would imagine that the countless working women across Singapore who share the 7.55am train as me to work have the same sentiments. Most of them commute sans makeup; few and far between take the trouble to apply eye-shadow, mascara, blush, the works.

But recently, I have been hardworking and other than merely slapping my all-important sunblock on my face, I’ve been applying mascara and blush to achieve a fresh radiant look. All within 5 minutes.

Here are my 3 steps to a 5 minute face:

Step 1. Sunblock sunblock sunblock.

This is one step you SHOULD NEVER EVER skip especially since we live in sunny Singapore so close to the Equator. Sunblock prevents the formation of age spots, freckles and blemishes from sun exposure.

I use La Roche-Posay SPF50+ sunblock which has been voted Best Sunblock in various magazines. Not only does it serve as its main purpose as a sunblock, it also gives my face a sheen as if I’ve applied tinted foundation.

Step 2. Blush

Sweep on a light pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks to brighten up your complexion. Pick a light colour for daily use because you dont want to end up looking like a clown or Pikachu! Keep the application light and use a fluffy brush for application on the apples of your cheeks.

Recommended products:

powder blush

Nars Orgasm blush

Step 3. Mascara

I know that mascara seems the most cumbersome of the three to apply and would take you beyond the 5 minute limit promised above. The curling of the lashes to achieve a doe-eyed/wide-eyed look is the most time-consuming. But here’s a little secret I discovered to save you precious zzZzzZz time.

Tip: Curl your lashes the night before you go to bed.

This saves you the hassle of having to make sure your lashes are curled to perfection early in the morning. All you have to do when you wake up is thus apply 2 coats of your favourite mascara and you’re ready to go!

Father’s Day passed with little fanfare as with most of the festivals in my family. We adjourn for dinner at simple restaurants and well, hardly exchange gifts. I do feel guilty about not showering mum and dad with gifts on Mother’s or Father’s Day, but I do try to make it up to them on their birthdays with extra special and expensive dinners at posh places.

Plus this year, with my brother in the army we had an early celebration last week.

I think it’s seems to harder for us to express our affection for our Dads. Especially with stay-home moms, it’s obvious the things she does for the house to keep the house in tip-top living conditions.

But have we ever thought about what our dads go through at work to bring home the bacon? Some people take for granted their dads are personal money banks. Wtf.

I never truly understood what it was like having a full time job until I got into the workforce myself. My dad’s the strong silent type and he never talked about work; I just thought he wasnt the chatty type. However, being the same horoscope as him, I can now fully understand where he comes from when all he wants to do is sit in front of the TV after dinner and veg out.

When it comes to the big decisions about things/choices in life, ideas or growing up, my dad always gives me advice about making the right choices. Not that I ever reaalllly listened when I was younger, but now I know better. Haha. Plus, with the deep knowledge he has about Singapore’s roads, I know that if I ever got lost anywhere in Singapore via public or private transport, I’d be able to call Dad.

I heard about the idea of a date with dad during the Kieng’s hen party from Jeannie, but I never thought I’d be able to carry one out. The idea seemed scary too. What would we talk about!? Jeannie mentioned that lotsa children never took the time to understand their dads and y’know what, my date with dad out turned out pretty nice.

Mum was out for dinner with her friends and my brother had an appointment, so it was just us two. I had initially planned for us to eat at Marina Square, but dad decided that since the Botanic Gardens has a foodcourt at the basement, we should thus go there. Check! My dad’s great at planning a nice dinner date, he just never shows it regularly.

The food wasnt spectacular at the foodcourt (I had some overpriced avocado milkshake and undercooked grilled chicken), but it was fun hiking/walking around the area with dad looking at the various plants as he retold the story of him and mum 25 years ago in that very same Gardens in their wedding gear.

I remember clearly the picture of them posing at the Swan Lake. The lake which, according to dad, used to have black swans currently only has two white swans.

After his story, I told dad about how I remember coming here to release my terrapins into the ponds. Coincidentally, one swam up to us at that moment.

We then roamed about the Gardens looking for the tree that mum and dad took their wedding pictures at; the famous one that all couples HAVE to have a picture at. But dad couldnt remember where it was and we ended up walking around exploring the different attractions with narration about how horrid the weather is by my personal tourguide. Haha.

My dad, my superhero. :)

Remember the Watson’s YOUawards?

They’ve picked finalists! Hoho. Time to spot the potential winners! Place your votes everyone! Here’s who I’m rooting for.

For the Healthy Hair Award, I’ve picked the girl with the blackest, shiniest hair that would make be want to run my fingers through it. My vote goes to Isabelle Neo [A2] because her locks looks like it just came out from a shampoo ad! You know the ad where you put a comb through the hair and it just falls out immediately, I think I could do that with her hair. It looks so soft! Plus I have seen her hair for real and it really is that nice.

Because I am such a beauty nut, I HAD to take a look at the Flawless Face Award finalists.

Dont you think [C4] Lubnak Nowak looks a little like Anne Hathaway? But that aside, she looks like she has absolutely perfect skin, all thanks to makeup! So I chose her as the person whom I would vote for. Be astounded by the magic of makeup. In fact the rest of the finalists look pretty good after the ZA makeover. If I had to choose a close second, it would be Yi Hong [C2] for she looks radiant and cherubic after her makeover.

Girls, if you are wondering why there are no hunks for you to ogle at. Here are some for the Friendly Face Award! If you were made to, which of these 5 guys would you most likely go up to on a random street and say, “Hi”?

I say it was a close fight between two of the five guys for me. I didnt want to put a crown on [F1] James’s head because he wouldnt look MAN enough. Haha. So I decided he would get the biggest card while [F2] Mervyn got the spot next to him.

This next award is special because it’s a mixed category! Thus, I again picked two.

[H2] Wei Jian looks the most buff and hence most sporty! He looks like someone who would be able to do all sorts of sports and I was right when I read his profile! He said he enjoys taking part in various sports to help his overall fitness. Other than him, [H1] Sarah obviously is a sports woman herself as you can tell from the tan. Someone who enjoys sports in the sun definitely would have a sporty physique.

Although I only picked a couple from these 4 categories, there are more category finalists available on the website http://www.watsonsyouawards.com.sg for you to vote for.

You can even vote for ALL of them!

However, each person can only vote from 1 computer once a day, with 1 email address, so people won’t be able to play cheat. Make sure you are voting religiously once a day for your favourite because you too are SPECIAL! The lucky voter who places his/her vote for the category winner WINS some awesome prizes.

I’ve already voted twice for Isabelle at the voting form. Fill in your name, email and contact number and you’re good to go!

Did you see my flashing post?

Yes, the one where I flashedddd…..

PAJAMAS!

The post where I had pictures of Xiaxue in her pajamas, exposed underage-girl’s sexy leopard print lingerie , captured Sheylara in front of the camera with my own and stripped ice-angel down to nothing but a big white shirt.

They’re all flashing flesh. How could you miss it?

In fact, the whole of Orchard Road was wondering what these crazy people were doing in the middle of the day dancing their pajamas!

Here are the snap snots!

But WAIT! There’s EVEN more.

A video of the day’s events! What better way to experience the event itself than to watch a video of it?

[youtube= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W73O2iRot1Q]

We had so much fun as you can obviously tell! Bloggers creating history AGAIN! The very first time we created history was when we had our first Blogger Blood Donation Drive and this time we make the record books again, but with more of you! Yipeee!!

Not to sound like we’re gloating, but we who attended the flash mob that very day will get a special tour this Friday by the Nuffies at the launch of the Singapore River Festival! Privileges galore!

Super super love to Nuffnang!

Oh did I mention that this very heart will get you access to the ULTIMATE PYJAMA PARTY @ The Arena after the DUCKtours? Yes, you will need this stress ball heart during that party because of all the hot people in their skimpy pajamas. Haha. Yes, pajamas are a MUST for this party, otherwise you will not be granted free access to the The ARENA. And if you dont get into the party, you’ll miss the FREE DRINKS! Hurray for a cheapo clubber like me!

Breathe and count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…..

But to get your heart racing before that, they’ve got an aerial acrobatic performance 10m above Read Bridge. It’s sure to get your hearts racing when they perform death-defying stunts too high from where you are standing. But the Dance Musical after that might help to calm you down a little as it is a heart warming love set set in quaint 1900s.

Awwwwwwwwww…..

I can already imagine the beautiful sights and wonderful theatre props on the river itself. Definitely bringing my huge DSLR along for the ride!

But dont despair if you cant be around for the first day of the Singapore River Festival. The entire Festival runs for NINE whole days till the 27th of June, anytime from 6pm onwards..

If you dont know what the Singapore River Festival is about, read this excerpt from their website.

From Boat Quay and Empress Place to Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay, the whole river will come alive with free events and activities. Revellers will be spoilt for choice with nightly activities that include a specially commissioned romantic musical and bumboat parade, paying tribute to the people of the river, a music festival celebrating our vibrant musical past, spectacular aerial performances, a Mojito festival, themed parties, an attempt at a record-making performance of mega illusions and a dance marathon.

In a nutshell, it’s a sun-down PARTY!

Absolutely free for nine days!

This one is a definitely must-attend.

But maybe you’d much prefer something more sit down and visual.

Oh oh! And for the dance lovers!

YAYYYY!

This sounds really good too! Cuban Jazz is reallllyyy sexy.

I cant decide which event sounds really good to attend! They all are bringing out the art appreciator in me again! Argh. I miss the arts so much. Check out http://www.singaporeriverfestival.com for more of the exciting and exhilarating events! There are just so many to choose from!

We’re on our way to the Singapore River Festival! Are you?

More events this weekend for Miss Earth! It’s quite exciting. Things are picking up steam.

This coming Saturday, 20th June, the Miss Earth Singapore 2009 girls will be at Chinatown Point for an Eco-friendly Roadshow at 1pm. Scheduled are fun events such as card-making, quizzes, a redesigning booth and a tallest tower challenge. Of course, the central theme of the roadshow and the activities is going GREEN!

I’ll be there of course!

I’ll be at the Redesigning Booth and the Tallest Tower station! Definitely looking forward to doing the redesigning because we have to redesign either an old bag or old set of clothes. I’ve always wanted to put my designing skills to the test after being inspired by Project Runway season after season. As for the Tallest Tower one, you think they put me there for a reason? Haha.

Come down and meet me leh! Or maybe you’re more interested to meet the rest of the 15 girls. Whatever it is, show your support for Mother Earth! Put your creative and green fingers to the test or just drop by and say “Hi”!

If you’re a fashionista, the fashion show the day after might be more exciting for you. This time at Vivo City, us girls will be donning outfits from the final year students of the Raffles Design Institute. I went for the fitting last Friday and till date, I still dont know which outfit I’ve been assigned. I really liked the high waisted red shorts one with blazer, so let’s hope I get that one.

*keeps fingers crossed*

Say “Hi” to me if you do come and manage to see me k?

For someone who stands tall (literally) and looks as though he can squash anyone by sitting on them, my baby brother is more like the Big Friendly Giant than the deadly Flesh Lump Eater.

He’s a big softie who cries at simple things, like when his bros bought him a bass guitar for his 21st birthday.

He’s a big romantic too and if I dare say so, a gentleman. He insists on sending his friends home all the time using our family car, but that sometimes leaves ME without the opportunity to use the car.

*glares*

Being the super nice friendly giant, he invites friends over to our house to play too. IN THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING, they’re jamming away on Guitar Hero on the Wii.

Not forgetting all the times he’s up in the middle of the night as the rest of the world is trying to get a decent sleep while he’s jamming, in his boxers, on his guitar plugged solidly into his amps. Lol.

I remember fighting with him and punching each other as we were younger. Both eventually running to mum yelling at the same time, “Miiiiiii…. Jeremy/Jiejie hit me!” I remember wondering how come he always got the chicken drumstick while I had to be content with eating the chicken wings. I also remember him scrawny and spiky hair-ed, looking a lot like Fido Dido when he was in lower primary.

Then there are the times when we would hide under the blankets in our parents’ room and pretend we were in the Antartica. We’d have hot chocolate and sit by our pretend fireplace and warm ourselves. Or maybe we’d build a blanket tent in the corner and hide inside pretending we were spies. Peeking out, our imaginations took us to war zones with approaching enemies and we were guards with a whole array of weaponry defending our fort. One thing I’ll always remember for sure, is how I used to always ask him to kiss me on the cheek because I liked how being kissed on the cheek felt, and he would oblige. HAHAHA.

We were such kids then.

My, how we’ve grown.

Through heart-breaks, growing pains and creeping into each other’s rooms with tears streaming down our faces, our displays of affection, at present, have progressed to making monkey faces at each other and nose-kissing. Sometimes even poking each other in the ribs. Still these dont the discount the love we have for one another.

The house will certainly be quieter without him around and I know my parents are nervous/scared/worried and excited about him going in the army. Feelings I share, but try not to think about because I trust and have faith in my brother.

I will miss my closet ah beng of a baby brother.

AH what! You call me ah!

I will miss my photography/cam-whoring partner in crime.
Pssst! My brother takes some really cool photos!

Take care Jemmie! We love you! See you in 2 weeks time.
We’re behind you 100% of the way!

Short note: Maybe next time I shouldnt put so much noise into the pictures. Pffft.

So says Pumkpin.

She’s naked san clothes, so obviously she’s flashing to the whole world.

What about you? Did you FLASH?

These people did.

And so did this group!

With the Nuffnang Flashmob that is.

An insane number of people turned up at the field next to the Singapore Visitor Center to be part of the first ever Singapore flashmob!

They were also there to see and follow one of their favourite bloggers.

Xiaxue with PK and her super chio camera and awesome Blackberry which I half wanted to steal and runaway with. Hahaha.

Sheylara looking sweet as always.

Ice Angel

Thy-Dowager (with her entourage)

And Jessica aka underage-girl whose picture I couldnt find on the flickr set.

Because we were creating history, a huge number of cameras also turned up to record this momentous event.

Including this huge ass video camera held by Jayden.

Everyone was supposed to be dressed in their PJs but had to first come in a disguise before we went “undercover” as briefed by Ming and Wennie.

At 6pm, the action happened. It was over in a jiffy because well, it IS a flash mob. The mob had to “silent dance” outside Heeren and then disperse. We definitely drew the curious stares of on-lookers and passersby especially when Xiaxue walked through the crowd (she’s too famous! haha) and the theatre peeps turned up pillow fighting.

These are the REAL people in their PJs.

But you must be curious as to what the top bloggers wore for the silent dance. Because the dance went on for a minute or so before we were told to stop and disperse to our “hiding spots”, we returned to our spots in PJs. I now take you on a brief tour of what the other bloggers wore.

Girls in sexy/pretty lingerie.

Those who sleep in their boyfriend’s shirts.

The casual, comfy and also branded (read: Juicy Couture) crew. Got shorts la! They’re called SHORTS for a reason.

What about Jessica? She was disguised as a power office lady in a smart blazer and black heels, but what lay beyond that disguise? I pry under her coat to reveal….

A hot sexy leopard print lingerie showing off her assets! OoooOooOooo….

No wonder that photographer guy was stalking her. Haha. He’s known in industry circles to be the “ham sup” photographer who goes around to events with girls, taking pictures of them for his own “portfolio”.

But getting back on track, you must also be wondering why were we silently dancing in the middle of town.

It’s because we’re….

ON THE WAY TO THE SINGAPORE RIVER FESTIVAL!

What about you?

If you werent there, here’s who and what else you missed.

I was holding PK and cam-whoring with her when Andy came up and wanted a picture of/with her. But because he was scared of holding PK, I had to hold her and he just stood next to us. Hahaha.

But he’s not scared of Stitch. Haha.

With Xiaxue as we were waiting. She’s pretty without photoshop too!

Making grumpy faces because the weather is too darn hot!!

I also met some of my blog readers and made new acquaintances.

Hpility who always nangs my posts.

Sweet Annabel (oh dear, I hope that’s her name cause it slips my mind now) whose shoes broke and she walked barefooted in Orchard. Haha. So cute.

Okay. After a week of no updates, here is a long post with lovely photos. Somehow I’ve been unofficially appointed as the school’s co-photographer without my knowledge. The teachers had a meeting and the next thing I knew, I was rostered as photographer for the Cross Country Carnival at MacRitchie which happened on Wednesday.

Not that I mind seriously, because the kids are absolutely adorable to photograph; they are such a gorgeous bunch! But they should drop a memo and check with my Personal Assistant first next time. Haha. I wouldnt have known if it wasnt for the other teacher who told me.

Only after a few hours in the shade, I still managed to get a slight tan. It’s pretty awkward at times going around shooting in these situations. My almost black hair makes me stand out amongst the natural blondes, brunettes and redheads. Furthermore, without the official STAFF tee-shirts the other teachers were wearing, I looked like some random person going around pointing a camera at their kids. But this being the second time I was the “outsider” poking my camera lens into their faces, I think the parents present pretty much recognised me as one of the teachers helping out with the event.

There were several races – Pre-school race, Kindy race, Year 1 to 6s. The pre-school and Kindy has the shortest races of course: 250m. Hahaha. Imagine those tiny 3, 5 and 6 year olds running along gravel at MacRitchie Reservoir. So cute!

Okay. I’ll tell you at this point that the view at that part of the MacRitchie Reservoir took my breath away. I didnt know that the area was SO gorgeous! That probably explained why so many other local school children from track and field teams were there training in their respective teams.

So, it was thus a sight to see the big bunch of little ang mohs trudging down the gravely path of MacRitchie in their trekkers and coloured house tees.

I like this picture – brotherly love. Awwwww.

The kiddos had a walk through the dark forested area before the actual race started.

Along the way, deep in the forest trails, were the checkpoints where the teachers were stationed with spray bottles to cool them off.

When we finally got back from our recce, the race, starting with pre-school, commenced before proceeding to the Kindys, Year 1, 2 all the way up to the Year 5/6.

Run Forrest run!

“I see the finish line!”

As the other kids waited their turn to run, they cheered their respective house teams on.

Once the races by 12 noon, we were done just in time to avoid the strongest sun of the day. Not that the sun wasnt already bright enough during the morning.

Here are some other pictures I particularly like, captured as I was trigger-happy on that bright sunny day.

My absolute favourite: it almost looks like some family ad. Hahaha!

OH did I forget to mention that there were monkeys in the area? As we were recce-ing the place, we saw the monkeys jump from tree to tree. But we never thought they would attack anyone.

Lo and behold, at the end as we were packing up, we heard news that a group of TEN monkeys came and charged at one of the teachers, in particular the one who had the First Aid box. They must have thought that the box contained food for they ransacked and scattered the contents all over the place. What the hell.

Here’s the pictorial evidence by the other teacher. She got really good pictures of them. Hahaha.

Look at the scary teeth! It’s yellow. I dont think they have monkey dentists.

“Oei come down now! Here got food!

They ransacked the cotton buds. Lol. Maybe they need to clean their ears too.

“Ooooo… What’s this? White and fluffy! Maybe it’s cotton candy.”

“Let me taste it”.

“Nommm nommm nommm…

“I think I might be able to use this for lining the garbage bin.”

“Ooooo.. That white stuff didnt go down very well. I think I have a headache.”

“I think some Panadol will do the trick. One might not be enough, I better take the whole pack.”

Let me play some music on my straw flute for you. Doooo.. dooo.. dooooo.. DOOOOOO!

“WAH! Who’s making such a ruckus? I need my Tiger Balm.”

“Ahhhh.. I feel much better now after downing some water and using the Tiger Balm. Whaaa… What? What do you mean this is the end of the post? Fine.”

BYE!

The End
