To me, sleep is important. I am so not a morning person! I would imagine that the countless working women across Singapore who share the 7.55am train as me to work have the same sentiments. Most of them commute sans makeup; few and far between take the trouble to apply eye-shadow, mascara, blush, the works.

But recently, I have been hardworking and other than merely slapping my all-important sunblock on my face, I’ve been applying mascara and blush to achieve a fresh radiant look. All within 5 minutes.

Here are my 3 steps to a 5 minute face:

Step 1. Sunblock sunblock sunblock.

This is one step you SHOULD NEVER EVER skip especially since we live in sunny Singapore so close to the Equator. Sunblock prevents the formation of age spots, freckles and blemishes from sun exposure.

I use La Roche-Posay SPF50+ sunblock which has been voted Best Sunblock in various magazines. Not only does it serve as its main purpose as a sunblock, it also gives my face a sheen as if I’ve applied tinted foundation.

Step 2. Blush

Sweep on a light pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks to brighten up your complexion. Pick a light colour for daily use because you dont want to end up looking like a clown or Pikachu! Keep the application light and use a fluffy brush for application on the apples of your cheeks.

Recommended products:
M.A.C Pinch-o-peach
powder blush

Nars Orgasm blush

Step 3. Mascara

I know that mascara seems the most cumbersome of the three to apply and would take you beyond the 5 minute limit promised above. The curling of the lashes to achieve a doe-eyed/wide-eyed look is the most time-consuming. But here’s a little secret I discovered to save you precious zzZzzZz time.

Tip: Curl your lashes the night before you go to bed.

This saves you the hassle of having to make sure your lashes are curled to perfection early in the morning. All you have to do when you wake up is thus apply 2 coats of your favourite mascara and you’re ready to go!

Recommended products:
Maybelline Define-a-lash mascara
Maybelline XXL volume+length fibrewig mascara

I dont know about you, but here are the steps I take when I buy a magazine.

Call me superficial, but I always look to the cover’s model first. If she’s pretty or someone I really like, I’m more inclined to buying and keeping the magazine than chucking it out!

This magazine already has criteria number 1 filled:
CHIO BU!

Then, it being an magazine that’s supposed to be chock full of informative and colourful visuals, I always check to see that it has content I like!

In particular, beauty and health.

Even better if there are free giveaways, such as being able to win the cover model’s makeup collection or beauty workshops.

Oooo…. I like it already. Free goodies!

Hey, wait what’s this? Fashion tips too?

Definitely worth buying since it’s got everything I like!

Now to check the price.

WHAT?! $2 only?
So cheap! Must buy!!!!1!11!1!!

What what? OHHHH.. I forgot the name of the magazine?

It’s………

GLOW from Watsons!

This time around the second issue of the magazine comes with a cosmetic pouch in 3 designs and packed to the brim with tips on how to enhance your look by using bright eyeshadow, detox the healthy way, choose the correct foundation to suit your different skin type and more! All that great information for a wonderful price of $2.

You even get to learn from the pros themselves at the GLOW workshop.
Date: 15 August 2009
Venue: Hotel Intercontinental
Registration fee: $25 – inclusive of goodie bag and light refreshments!

Make sure you get your hands on a copy now and join the GLOW Facebook page for more updates! I think I’ll sign up for the workshop myself.

Father’s Day passed with little fanfare as with most of the festivals in my family. We adjourn for dinner at simple restaurants and well, hardly exchange gifts. I do feel guilty about not showering mum and dad with gifts on Mother’s or Father’s Day, but I do try to make it up to them on their birthdays with extra special and expensive dinners at posh places.

Plus this year, with my brother in the army we had an early celebration last week.

I think it’s seems to harder for us to express our affection for our Dads. Especially with stay-home moms, it’s obvious the things she does for the house to keep the house in tip-top living conditions.

But have we ever thought about what our dads go through at work to bring home the bacon? Some people take for granted their dads are personal money banks. Wtf.

I never truly understood what it was like having a full time job until I got into the workforce myself. My dad’s the strong silent type and he never talked about work; I just thought he wasnt the chatty type. However, being the same horoscope as him, I can now fully understand where he comes from when all he wants to do is sit in front of the TV after dinner and veg out.

When it comes to the big decisions about things/choices in life, ideas or growing up, my dad always gives me advice about making the right choices. Not that I ever reaalllly listened when I was younger, but now I know better. Haha. Plus, with the deep knowledge he has about Singapore’s roads, I know that if I ever got lost anywhere in Singapore via public or private transport, I’d be able to call Dad.

I heard about the idea of a date with dad during the Kieng’s hen party from Jeannie, but I never thought I’d be able to carry one out. The idea seemed scary too. What would we talk about!? Jeannie mentioned that lotsa children never took the time to understand their dads and y’know what, my date with dad out turned out pretty nice.

Mum was out for dinner with her friends and my brother had an appointment, so it was just us two. I had initially planned for us to eat at Marina Square, but dad decided that since the Botanic Gardens has a foodcourt at the basement, we should thus go there. Check! My dad’s great at planning a nice dinner date, he just never shows it regularly.

The food wasnt spectacular at the foodcourt (I had some overpriced avocado milkshake and undercooked grilled chicken), but it was fun hiking/walking around the area with dad looking at the various plants as he retold the story of him and mum 25 years ago in that very same Gardens in their wedding gear.

I remember clearly the picture of them posing at the Swan Lake. The lake which, according to dad, used to have black swans currently only has two white swans.

After his story, I told dad about how I remember coming here to release my terrapins into the ponds. Coincidentally, one swam up to us at that moment.

We then roamed about the Gardens looking for the tree that mum and dad took their wedding pictures at; the famous one that all couples HAVE to have a picture at. But dad couldnt remember where it was and we ended up walking around exploring the different attractions with narration about how horrid the weather is by my personal tourguide. Haha.

My dad, my superhero. :)

Remember the Watson’s YOUawards?

They’ve picked finalists! Hoho. Time to spot the potential winners! Place your votes everyone! Here’s who I’m rooting for.

For the Healthy Hair Award, I’ve picked the girl with the blackest, shiniest hair that would make be want to run my fingers through it. My vote goes to Isabelle Neo [A2] because her locks looks like it just came out from a shampoo ad! You know the ad where you put a comb through the hair and it just falls out immediately, I think I could do that with her hair. It looks so soft! Plus I have seen her hair for real and it really is that nice.

Because I am such a beauty nut, I HAD to take a look at the Flawless Face Award finalists.

Dont you think [C4] Lubnak Nowak looks a little like Anne Hathaway? But that aside, she looks like she has absolutely perfect skin, all thanks to makeup! So I chose her as the person whom I would vote for. Be astounded by the magic of makeup. In fact the rest of the finalists look pretty good after the ZA makeover. If I had to choose a close second, it would be Yi Hong [C2] for she looks radiant and cherubic after her makeover.

Girls, if you are wondering why there are no hunks for you to ogle at. Here are some for the Friendly Face Award! If you were made to, which of these 5 guys would you most likely go up to on a random street and say, “Hi”?

I say it was a close fight between two of the five guys for me. I didnt want to put a crown on [F1] James’s head because he wouldnt look MAN enough. Haha. So I decided he would get the biggest card while [F2] Mervyn got the spot next to him.

This next award is special because it’s a mixed category! Thus, I again picked two.

[H2] Wei Jian looks the most buff and hence most sporty! He looks like someone who would be able to do all sorts of sports and I was right when I read his profile! He said he enjoys taking part in various sports to help his overall fitness. Other than him, [H1] Sarah obviously is a sports woman herself as you can tell from the tan. Someone who enjoys sports in the sun definitely would have a sporty physique.

Although I only picked a couple from these 4 categories, there are more category finalists available on the website http://www.watsonsyouawards.com.sg for you to vote for.

You can even vote for ALL of them!

However, each person can only vote from 1 computer once a day, with 1 email address, so people won’t be able to play cheat. Make sure you are voting religiously once a day for your favourite because you too are SPECIAL! The lucky voter who places his/her vote for the category winner WINS some awesome prizes.

I’ve already voted twice for Isabelle at the voting form. Fill in your name, email and contact number and you’re good to go!

Did you see my flashing post?

Yes, the one where I flashedddd…..

PAJAMAS!

The post where I had pictures of Xiaxue in her pajamas, exposed underage-girl’s sexy leopard print lingerie , captured Sheylara in front of the camera with my own and stripped ice-angel down to nothing but a big white shirt.

They’re all flashing flesh. How could you miss it?

In fact, the whole of Orchard Road was wondering what these crazy people were doing in the middle of the day dancing their pajamas!

Here are the snap snots!

But WAIT! There’s EVEN more.

A video of the day’s events! What better way to experience the event itself than to watch a video of it?

[youtube= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W73O2iRot1Q]

We had so much fun as you can obviously tell! Bloggers creating history AGAIN! The very first time we created history was when we had our first Blogger Blood Donation Drive and this time we make the record books again, but with more of you! Yipeee!!

Not to sound like we’re gloating, but we who attended the flash mob that very day will get a special tour this Friday by the Nuffies at the launch of the Singapore River Festival! Privileges galore!

Super super love to Nuffnang!

Oh did I mention that this very heart will get you access to the ULTIMATE PYJAMA PARTY @ The Arena after the DUCKtours? Yes, you will need this stress ball heart during that party because of all the hot people in their skimpy pajamas. Haha. Yes, pajamas are a MUST for this party, otherwise you will not be granted free access to the The ARENA. And if you dont get into the party, you’ll miss the FREE DRINKS! Hurray for a cheapo clubber like me!

Breathe and count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…..

But to get your heart racing before that, they’ve got an aerial acrobatic performance 10m above Read Bridge. It’s sure to get your hearts racing when they perform death-defying stunts too high from where you are standing. But the Dance Musical after that might help to calm you down a little as it is a heart warming love set set in quaint 1900s.

Awwwwwwwwww…..

I can already imagine the beautiful sights and wonderful theatre props on the river itself. Definitely bringing my huge DSLR along for the ride!

But dont despair if you cant be around for the first day of the Singapore River Festival. The entire Festival runs for NINE whole days till the 27th of June, anytime from 6pm onwards..

If you dont know what the Singapore River Festival is about, read this excerpt from their website.

From Boat Quay and Empress Place to Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay, the whole river will come alive with free events and activities. Revellers will be spoilt for choice with nightly activities that include a specially commissioned romantic musical and bumboat parade, paying tribute to the people of the river, a music festival celebrating our vibrant musical past, spectacular aerial performances, a Mojito festival, themed parties, an attempt at a record-making performance of mega illusions and a dance marathon.

In a nutshell, it’s a sun-down PARTY!

Absolutely free for nine days!

This one is a definitely must-attend.

But maybe you’d much prefer something more sit down and visual.

Oh oh! And for the dance lovers!

YAYYYY!

This sounds really good too! Cuban Jazz is reallllyyy sexy.

I cant decide which event sounds really good to attend! They all are bringing out the art appreciator in me again! Argh. I miss the arts so much. Check out http://www.singaporeriverfestival.com for more of the exciting and exhilarating events! There are just so many to choose from!

We’re on our way to the Singapore River Festival! Are you?
