Health, in 1948, was defined by the World Health Assembly as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

To me, with the stressors we face nowadays, we should definitely take a more holistic approach to health than we did previously. Health is now, more than ever, viewed as being in a positive state of physical, mental and social well-being.

Previously, infectious diseases from microorganisms, were the main bane of human society. Though they still contribute to a significant number of illnesses these days, we as a human species have evolved to be susceptible to dietary diseases and mental illnesses. There are certain individuals, in my opinion, that thus embody and present health in today’s modern context.

With our packed schedules, many of us forget to eat right. Fast, “delish” but calorie packed junk food is more than easily available on the go. I have to sadly admit that I used to be guilty of this crime but have thankfully stopped. Think about what that could do for our bodies in the long run?! The state of malnutrition certainly doesn’t cross our mind with food readily available and poverty not an issue in our society, but did you know that the extreme lack of Vitamin B can cause beriberi and insufficient Vitamin C in our diet leads to scurvy?

Enter: A dietitian

A dietitian will customise your nutritional needs according to health. He/she will assess the nutritional well-being of patients to customise their medical nutrition therapy and implement specific diet strategies. But their knowledge is not limited to medical settings; their expertise can be used in community settings, like weight management, food services, eating disorders or even sportsmen!

A dietitian will layout an adequate individualised nutritional care plan and will encourage you to…..

But what about people who have difficulty performing day-to-day tasks and hence cannot feed themselves? You’d be surprised at the number of people who need such help. In my line of work, I sometimes see kids who need such assistance. Their productive living may be compromised due to such a setback, but fear not, their physical and social health can be helped by…

Enter: An occupational therapist

An occupational therapist will design treatment programme for those with physical disabilities, mental or social problems. Despite accidents, illness or aging, they can enhance physical and psychological functions, facilitate independent living and improve the quality of life of people with disabilities or special needs through their meaningful line of work.

Another important facet of the healthcare line is the wonderful team of nurses:

Staff nurse, nurse manager, nurse educator and advanced practice nurse.

Without them, patients would not get due care during their treatments, acute and/or chronic illnesses would go undiagnosed, untreated and unmanaged, their clinical expertise would not be passed down to future generations and on top of all that, they also work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals!

After all that talk, it’s now your turn to demonstrate what health is to you. Do you have a brilliant idea on how else health can look like besides these everyday people with extraordinary lives? Your brilliant idea could win you 3 x Samsung Q1 (8GB) MP3 Players or 10 x $50 cash vouchers with each submitted entry!

All you have to do is

Your wallpaper needs to be in relation to health visuals (like keeping a healthy lifestyle through exercise, a healthy diet or even no smoking) or focus on health professionals (like you read above). Put your ideas onto a 1600 x 1200 pixel canvas, upload it to healthcareers.sg and viola you are one step closer to winning the fantastic prizes!

Need more information about the other extraordinary positions available in the amazing healthcare field? Go to healthcareers.sg to find out more about the different career choices. On the M.A.C Hello Kitty girl:
I see her as a playful, coquettish girly girl with a rocker edge, but she also likes to pamper and take care of herself. I think the actual products evolved to reflect this character.
- Jennifer Balbier SVP Product Development, M.A.C Worldwide

Spring is all about lovely pastels and sweet colours: pinks, purples, green and gold. And for this season, I declare pink and green my absolute must-have.

Thus, the M.A.C Hello Kitty new collection gives me (and everyone else) the chance of fulfilling the desire to be both innocent and mischievous.

The M.A.C Hello Kitty Colour Collection is all that’s girly and sparkly. Ooooo.. I like girly, I like sparkly even better! And it’s newest collection is chock full of colours purrrrr-fect for the spring season. The collection will feature plush pinks, rich purples, turquoise for extra pop, three-dimensional lickable lips and lashes that were made to bat, all packaged in a sophisticated yet adorable graphic black design to give the line that wiiiiild edge.

Things to look out for in the new collection other than the awesome eye palettes:

L to R: Beauty Powder Blush and Beauty Powder!

Isnt the packaging adorable? I kinda have my eye on the Beauty Powder because the soft sunny pink with gold looks like it could perk up any skin and set you glowing from tip to toe. (Plus, my Pinch-o-Peach blush is running out too.) A couple of sweeps on the apples of your cheeks and in no time, you’ll be radiating confidence! I say never ever step out of the house without blusher or face colour. Owing to our Asian skin tone, it’s more than likely we’ll look pale and sallow without makeup. So the Beauty Powder Blush in TIPPY and Beauty Powder in PRETTY BABY should be a good addition to any makeup case.

Collection launches in March! That’s only 2 weeks away! I better start saving harder!

I have yet to do my accounts, but I suspect I blew my entire leave cash-out from last month on 4 (or was it 5?) batches of Victoria’s Secret. 500 buckaroos baybeh! But VS is love! Everything is so pretty. And I LOVE my buys!

Before you start getting wild thoughts of all things naughty, I’ll have you know that VS has awesome clothes too! Like seriously, CLOTHES. Haha. Fully dressed people! Though most people know them for their sexay lingerie and swimwear, I, and for most of the working population, dont have the privilege of walking around our workplaces in outfits like that; we dont work by the beach and most certainly dont deserve to be prancing around in skimpy bikinis with enhanced push-ups and Gel-Curve®.

Nonetheless, I went crazy on their semi-annual sale on winter wear! It’s insane and I love it! With discounts up to almost 70% on various items, it was hard not to lust over the cute tops, lush sweaters and super cheap pants! I went crazy browsing through everything. BWAHAHAHAHA. I love their pants for the superb length and cutting, but I’m truly a sucker for sweaters. Because Singapore doesnt have winter, people think I’m crazy when I’m bundled up in a turtleneck sweater and long sleeves in the train. But who cares?! I’m decked out in Victoria’s Secret.

Okay, some pictures of my loot. 2 batches have already arrived, am waiting for two more! Wheeeeee! All shipped via vPost!

Aren’t the tops just adorable! Me love! Especially the one with the bow at the back.

Other stuff you dont really expect from Victoria’s Secret: makeup!

Loose shimmer powder and liquid eyeshadows for USD5.99 and USD3.99 each?! How not to buy! CHEAP!

Little Miss Victoria Secret also has a present for me!

A super duper cute baby PINK wristlet! Ok lah. It’s Jen’s. I just borrowed it to take pictures of first. Haha. The box is so pretty though!

And my favourite buys this time around. A SET OF THREE ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS BAGS THAT COST 30USD IN TOTAL! NO seriously, I am not joking.

Now that brings the total VS bag count to 4. Whoooooohooooooooo!
