HAPPY NEW YEAR!
In this first post of 2009, I will tantalise everyone with yummy food! It is always good to usher in the new year with an abundance of all things yummy!
For this post, we will join my teddies on their sushi dinner. I heart sushi! I could probably eat it 365 days 7 days a week.
Sushi generally has evolved to be served on a conveyor belt.

Ikura (Salmon Roe) Gunkan. Seaweed wrapped around the rice before toppings are added on top. Look at the overflowing filling! Yum! I like this one because it’s so juicy. When you bite into the little balls, they explode in your mouth and the flavour literally oozes out.

Chawanmushi is steamed egg that is eaten on its own in the cup. Stuffed with fish cake, chicken meat, crab meat or whatever you fancy, the soft, smooth and silken texture of the chawanmushi simply glides down your throat! Slurp!

Temakis are one of my favourites too. They are also known as handrolls because with various types of ingredients, you pack them with rice on the seaweed and roll them into handheld little cones!

Then you eat them with your hands just like this teddy is doing.

Nigiri sushi is one of the staples in sushi too. The rice is rolled and pressed into a rectangular/oval shape before being topped with ingredients such as seafood, meats or vegetables! This one here is topped with raw salmon. My favourite.

Everyone loves to eat their sushi with a little soy sauce with a dash of the green stuff called wasabi!

Or you can eat it with the condiments in this bucket too. What’s inside?

It’s pickled ginger! I dont particularly like pickled ginger.

Dont forget your chopsticks before you start eating!
How about some drinks?

The traditional green tea brewed with a tea bag is a popular choice among all who dine at sushi joints.

For the more adventurous, you might like to try a bottle of sake. A Japanese alcoholic beverage made from rice. It is also referred to as rice wine.

The more traditional might prefer a hearty beer with their meal.

Good vibrant conversation keeps the atmosphere light and cheery.

With great friends to share a good meal with you, everything is perfect.

To really finish off your meal, be sure to try some Japanese melons. The sweetest you’ll ever find! Juicy!

Always be sure to check the menu to see what specials your restaurant might offer!
Itatakimas!
