The pageant that we know and love to bitch WATCH so much, is about to get CANCELLED
FROM TV.
According to the Electric New Paper, due to dropping viewership and the lack of sponsorship interest, they will not screen live the Singapore edition of the pageant.
I dont know about you, but this got me laughing.
The business and promotions director of Derrol Stepenny Promotions, which has held the rights to the franchise since 2000, said: ‘Of course, we are saddened by it, but we have to be realistic. We are hoping it can be televised again and that more sponsors and contestants will step forward to support it. We may not be on TV, but the show must go on.’
He added that rising production costs, bad publicity and the decline in sponsorships and entries have pushed the pageant off the air.
We ALL KNOW what goes through our heads when we think of pageant girls. Sadly, the girls that SHOULD compete in pageants never actually step up because they know the stereotype that overwhelms anyone when you mention BEAUTY pageants.
And former winner Jamie Teo is right when she says that some girls who take part see the pageant as a platform for them to springboard their showbiz careers. But then again, it’s HARD not to get that kind of impression especially since most of the girls whom we’ve seen get crowned on our tellies, soon appear in drama serials or edu-tainment programmes. But no, you dont see them appearing on covers for BEING Miss Singapore Universe do you?
I guess they should re-emphasize the purpose of the pageant. Y’know like give each of the girls a briefing with regards to their duties AFTER their win. Humanitarian causes, make a difference, help the needy, WORLD PEACE!
But that aside, i think the main problem that most pageants face is sponsorship. Singapore is SMALL, and unlike other countries where they have PAGEANT SCHOOLS in which girls spend years perfecting their beauty queen walk and wave, we just randomly pick up girls to be our “Queens”. How is THIS going to attract sponsors to invest money in the pageant and in the girls?
But I think sponsors forget that what they invest in the show and the girls, will be seen and watched by millions of viewers. Furthermore, should they be a main sponsor for our Queen to go international, at least billions of people from Brazil to Venezuela to South Africa will be “educated” about the standard of “beauty” in Singapore.
That being said, do you think that the winners of MSU should be representative of the general population of girls in Singapore, or should they just choose the best?
Cause yknow, choosing someone who’s representative of the girls in Singapore would most definitely, make Singapore more than just a small, red dot on the map. It would also mark Singapore girls/beauties as small and pint sized NEXT TO THE TALL BEVY OF BEAUTIES IN THE CONTEST. I mean like duh! *smacks forehead*
1.67m/5″6 Jessica Tan (our Queen in 2007, if you dont know shame on you!) said so herself, she felt short next to the the rest of the girls. EH, even Miss Japan who won the crown in 2007 is 5″8! And super hot Miss Korea Honey Lee, is 5″9! That’s almost my height! Haha!

Hi Honey. How are you?
Singapore only 5″6 leh! Even Miss Thailand is 5″11! Indonesia 5″8! You notice how Im only comparing between our Asian countries? I guess Singaporeans dont know the meaning of NEVER ENDING LONG LEGS. Watch more Victoria Secret can!
See the rest of the contestants HERE.
Arghhhhhh! Okay stopping my angst and going back to my point, because of the sore lack of sponsors, our poor Miss Singapore’s have to be dressed like THIS for international viewers.

Miss Singapore in the International pageant ground in 2006
Our girls wear lingerie all the time. Whoooooooo!
Everyone will come to Singapore for the wrong reasons. We are SIN-gapore. The SIN City.
Then when they do arrive here, they get sorely disappointed. HAHA!
I think even the Dim Sum Dollies have better outfits than her.
Psssst! If you havent already watched it, you should. It’s hilarious!

But thank goodness, MSU 2007′s National Costume wasnt that bad.

Okay la. I talk so much, I know people are going to say, you talk so much YOU GO JOIN LA! I go join but I not pretty or bimbo enough what.
More importantly,
I NOT BOOB-Y ENOUGH! HAHAHAHA!
Oh, but even if I join this year, you wont know! Cause it’s not going to be on TV! Hahaha!
