Sometimes the perks of waking up early beat that of suffering from lethargy the later part of the day. I like Sunday mornings, although many say it’s a day for sleeping in, I believe it should be a day of pigging out on dim sum breakfast or downing fragrant, invigorating coffee/tea coupled with a serving of hearty breakfast.
I must admit I wasnt a practitioner of such beliefs till recently. Hahaha.
Having being forced to wake at 8am for the past few Sundays and run on what little hours of sleep has forced me, very fortunately, to follow a healthy lifestyle of sorts.
I clock in by 9am at the studio. Make sure everything’s in running order before putting up my “Back in 5 mins” post-it and run across to the oh-so-close kopitiam or food court to get my fix. Ahhhh.. Breakfast. Alone. Air-con.

Nasi lemak, yuan yang and traditional kaya/butter toast
I was happy with my purchase. What’s not to like about loading up on carbs?! And it was decently cheap. Less than 5 bucks. Bwahaha. However, I was thoroughly disappointed when I finished up the kaya butter toast and proceeded to open the nasi lemak.

OEI! Where’s my egg?!
Just fish, rice and chilli!
Nasi lemak without egg is like eating fishball noodles without the balls, fishballs I mean. The TWO dollar packet of nasi lemak’s only saving grace was that it came with peanuts and anchovies. But then again, there was so little of it, I finished it with 4 spoonfuls of rice. Dont even get me started on the fish. It was, cold, dry hard, and more importantly, SKINNY. I mean, look at it yourself! But still, being hungry and unsatiated from 2 slices of kaya butter toast, and the coffee-based yuan yang (I like mine tea based), I swallowed at least half the packet. At least that kept me busy for a good half an hour. Haha!
So now I know, if Im ever going to have nasi lemak for breakfast, Im definitely not going to buy it from Toast Box. EVEN if it’s cheap. Hey if it’s an indication of what their specialty food is, READ THE NAME!
